Will a Mikuni TM36 fit a KLX250s?...

RE: Will a Mikuni TM36 fit a KLX250s?...
The TM36 has been off the bike for a while becuase I had the TM34 dialed in so well and I'd rather be riding than messing around with the carb.
Didn't ride last weekend so I swapped put the TM36 back on while I was putting the stock tank back on (that's another story). Before installing the TM36, I lowered the clip by one notch (same as raising the needle) making mid-range richer. (It's now at the middle notch).
I sure can tell the difference between the two carbs, the TM36 is much snappier and easily pulls the front wheel up in 1st by just snapping open the throttle. I really want to get the TM38 dialed in just as well as the TM34.
Lowering the clip did take care of the "drop out" that I was experiencing upon closing the throttle down, but midrange still isn't quite right. With a constant midrange throttle, there's some stuttering. Closing or opening the throttle smooths things out.
Next I try lowering the clip one more notch.
Another alternative is a different needle and needle jet. I've read other bikes (RZ400?) are using this carb but with a different needle jet (P-4, P-6) and an a different needle (9EBY1-50 or 9EBY1-51), also while upping the PJ to 17.5-20.0
Here's my current setupfor the TM36-68
331cc overbore
Full Muzzy system - quiet insert & spark arrestor installed
K&N Filter - Airbox lid on and snorkle removed with extra cutout to accomodate a crankcase vent filter

I noticed you are using a Muzzy full exhaust, perhaps we should ask Iowaguy if that's the problem, you do know that only a big gun can make a klx run at max potential.
Let's summon him.

Hello All,
This information is for the people using the TM 33-34 carb.
Try installing a P-9 or a Q-O needle jet or you can drill your stock needle jet out there is two ways to go. If you want a P-9you candrill the stock needle jetout to a #37 drill = .104 Dia. Orif you want aQ-Odrill the stock needle jet out to a #36 drill = .106 Dia. this improves the performance from 1/2 to full throttle. I have installedthese needle jets in several of the the TM 33-34 carb. The wife & I arerunning the P-9 needle jets.

RE: Will a Mikuni TM36 fit a KLX250s?...
Dragone#19she was a screamer.......I had the stator drilled and dipped so it would rev to about 12,000 without a flyapart and i still have a complete frame for a '74 RD350/400 ....the wife made me get rid of that one....but man was that thing fast....It did absolutley nothing till about 4500 rpm and then at that point it would either break the back tire loose or wheelie up and throw you off......Of all the toys i've had it was my most favorite.......true personality in it.the drags at Maple grove were the most fun when you could totally embarass a Gixxer 750 in the 1/4 when he had all his goodies.....when he saw my bike they'd always get a chuckle out of it and his buddies would always bust *****....I dynoed 1 time and measued 134 hp and the bike weighed 201 lbs......LOL....lot's 'o fun....I want to build another one soon but i want to do an RZ400 or an RD400 Daytona......It'd be alot of fun.....I'm not to intersested in the kawi mach triples as those are really expensive and ALOT of work to get up to speed with maintenance and parts.

Plus the air cooled triples tend to seize the middle piston at the road race track. Right on Truckman, good to see some history and knowledge.

RE: Will a Mikuni TM36 fit a KLX250s?...
yeah the center cylinder sieze usually wrecked the crank too as it would twist them all to heck....that front fender blocked more air than you could imagine......man i love those bikes....some of the other guys have no idea what a bike is till they rode an RD,RZ or a Mach 3 triple...those bikes have VIOLENT horsepower when they are built right.man those things were fun......I saved a pristine RD400 frame in my attick and i looked at it the other day and she is still cherry.......my wife asks me why i won't scrap it but she just don't quite understand.........accelleration........and power.........+ the memories,,,,boy are those things fun.

Man, I can only imagine. I had the privelage of riding a Yamaha RZ-1 and Suzuki 250 Gamma racer replica. I really enjoyed both rides, but came away most impressed with the Gamma. For a little 250cc, that thing will flat azz scream! A little bit squirly at higher speeds, but what I wouldn't give to own one! Beautiful machine!
