OK, Im a COMPLETE and impulsive nutbag, and bought it on the card (I know, I know), so Ill be the first to try it on a 250cc displacement fairly stock bike (standard mods, slip on HMF, adn Uni), see how it goes. IF I have the money, Im taking it down to Moto Milano, and the Dyno, its liek 45 for a 1/2 hour, 90 for the full hour, and Id like to see how it goes compared to the stock rejetted carb. Any suggestions as to airbox (right now, no snorkel, lid on, should I take it off, or go the other way to restrict some airflow?), jetting (Id like to take one or two with me, in lower sizes), and some basic reccomendations for initital setup?? I have a stock knobby tire too,so.............

to get the best out of a dyno run you need road rubber

Received the TM36-68 today and recorded the out-of-the-box jetting:
#130 MJ
#12.5 PJ
568 P-8 NJ
9DZH6-50 JN w/ clip 2nd from top

Things that I noticed right away that was different from the TM33:

- Throttle wheel is on left side - this doesn't seem to be an issue since the throttle cable routes there easily
- throttle cable bracket is different - the throttle cable screws through a threaded hole in the bracket so that the nuts can be tightened on either side of the bracket - much more secure and less slop in the throttle
- The main jet can be changed without taking off the bowl
- The jet needle can be adjusted without disassembling the slide - simply loosen a hex cap bolt and slide a retaining clip out of the way and the needle comes right out
- The A.P. is fully adjustable
- The fuel inlet tube is on a swivel

Installed it (which was really easy to get it into the bike, but hooking up the throttle cable was kind of tedious since it had to screw into the bracket) and it started right up. Also removed my airbox lid. ...and took it for a test ride.

I've got some jetting work to do. The bottom end seems good, when the AP kicks in off low RPM, the front end comes up. Unfortunately, my midrange is crappy, surging and cutting out, but W.O.T. is strong. The problems I had at 3/4-WOT with it leaning out are gone. I also may need to play with the AP settings.

Tomorrow, I'll put the O2 meter back on and get a feel for the midrange issues and adjust the needle clip (I think that I can make the adjustment without removing the carb from the bike).

Once I get things dialed in (seems like I getting to be a pro at this), the TM34 will be up for sale.

Nice, the needle can be adjusted without removing the carb. Moved the clip to 3rd pos from top (richer), and this took care of the midrange stutter (mostly).

The big problem that I have right now is a huge lean out when coming off the throttle - when letting off the throttle for a shift - the bike cuts out - I can see this on the O2 meter too.

Looks like I need a #15 pilot jet. Another indication that I need the bigger PJ is that there isn't a "sweet spot" when adjusting the F/A screw. I can get the bike to faulter when screwing it in (lean) but don't get a rich condition when unscrewing it.

Looks like Mustang is getting good results with the 130MJ, 15PJ, P8NJ and clip in 3rd position at 4000' ?

My top end is great, but I'll slip in a 127.5 at some point due to my altitude.

Been reading some posts elsewhere where other jetting alternatives include a differentNJ (P4/P6) and a different needle (9EBY1-50). I'll see how the #15PJ goes first.

I've tried going with a 132.5 main jet and 15 pilot jet, as well as mixing and matching with the stock jetting. Both the 132.5 main jet and 15 pilot jet were just too rich for me. Even with the clip on the needle in the 2nd slot from the top, the 15 pilot was too rich. The bike wasn't blubbering, but the plug was coal black and a rev-up from idle would puff some gray smoke. In the end, the stock jetting along with the clip on the needle in the 3rd slot worked best. I'm at 2,400' ASL.

You're right, Mooredan, about the air/fuel screw with the stock pilot jet. I can't get mine to go rich either, but it runs very well, so I don't know what to think. Maybe a 15 pilot jet with the next size larger pilot air jet would be better. One thing I noticed about my carb is thatthe idle doesn't settle immediately. Rev it up from idle, and the RPM's will drop down to about 2000, then a second or two later drop back to 1500. This seems to be the opposite of what you're experiencing. I wonder if the A/P has something to do with this.

I've also read about the 9EBY1-50 needle. Running that needle requires a larger pilot jet - something like a 20. This setup is what some of the XR400 guys swear by, but then again, their other jetting specs were too rich for me so I'm a little hesitant to try it.

Mine is 130 mj, 15 pj, p8, needle in second postion. I still have the stock exhaust, my alt. is 656'. Nice idle pulls clean thru rev range no dec. poping I'm real happy.

I assume you guys arent using the "return" part of your throttle cable?? Ive got it on, and cant seem to line them up properly?? I rejetted to 15 pilot to begin with, left the needle in the "stock" slot, and main at 130. I got a 127.5 and kept the 12.5 in case its too much for the stock 250 displacement. Any cable suggestions?? The stock cable that fits (pull) is pretty tight as well??
