the guy told me it is too big for the bike, but i see race tech springs are longer and wider...anyone know if this would fit as it is the correct spring rate for me...any idea where i can get the dimensions of the ebay spring from

My Eibach catalog shows that spring to be the same spring for the KLX300 as far as dimensions. I installed this spring in my '06 KLX250 last year in a 6.0 rate, and it has worked perfectly. I've heard some say you have to watch for airbox rubbing when using a 300 size spring, but after many, many harsh miles now, there's plenty of room on my airbox and spring clearance and no evidence of any contact.
How light are you? Our stock springs are 5.8, I believe, so going to a 5.3 is a decent drop in weight rate. I'm only 185 pounds, and I had to go to a 6.0.

i need a new spring because the stock one is too stiff...when i set the race sag to where it should be, i end up with way too much free sag...thinking the right spring rate would make the bike handle even better

I'll repeat my concern on your spring weight issue, however, and others have done the same. A 5.3 spring is going to be super, super light on the KLX250. You might reason in your head that since it came on a YZ250F that it should easily handle a KLX250. The comparsion instead is based on the weight of the KLX250 over the YZ and the compression angles and linkage design between the two bikes...the later probably doing more to influence spring weight rate. I'd think if you do indeed need a lighter spring, just one step down would be as large as you could use. In the Eibach catalog, I'm seeing those 892 series springs step down to 5.6, 5.4, 5.2, and lower. There are basically 2 other lower weight springs from stock before you get to the 5.3 you're considering. That is huge. I think you'd have to weigh something like 35 pounds to make that work.

Good info TNC:
the reason i am thinking a 5.3 spring rate is because I whent on racetechs page and they have a calculator that you input what king of riding you do and how much you wiegh to get the proper racetech spring rate....i'm guessing what it comes down to is the spring rate may depend on the particular companies spring, its lenth, and the weight of the bike its going on. was just trying to find a way to get a proper spring without spending $100
