yep, mine always gives me fair warning. you can just tell it's going there when you feel a slight burble in the engine before you have to switch. the '09 is supposed to have a fuel warning inside the odometer, but I've yet to see it. anyone else?
also, yes the '09 says 91 is required on the side panel sticker but other places it says 87 so who knows. I run 87 mostly w/no problems. I once got 85 mpg on my 200 mile weekend road ride.

Check your math. If you got 111 miles on the main tank only, that's 5.5 litres (07 model), or 1.45 gallons. That's 76MPG in my books. Don't complain about that.
I will top off the tank tomorrow, and try to stick with street riding, keeping the rpm's in a more conservative, less ***** to the wall style like I have been.

2 questions, while filling with the petcock set to main, will that automatically fill the reserve too?

Also, how do I know when to stop? I know not to fill so the underneath of the cap touches, but is there a line or something on the inside I can go by? I suppose I can go by number of gallons pumped out, but that's not as exact.

You are right, 111 miles/1.5 gallons is 74mpg

I did 111/1.9 to get to 64. If indeed your motor dies from fuel starvation with the petcock on main, and you switch to reserve and have 1/2 a gallon left, I was doing pretty good.

Cool. Not cool about the motor dying or the motor stutter. I'll pay extra attention when I fill up tomorrow and note when it starts after X miles.

Thanks!

Fuel goes into the reserve, then fills the main afterwards.
It's just a mechanical level.

just stop filling it when the gas hits the bottom of where the spout begins.

"Never fill the tank so the fuel level rises into the filler neck."
From the manual.

OK, so how do I know it rises into the filler neck without shutting the cap?

Also the manual says a minimum of 87 is required on page 36 for the 2009 model.

Then, on page 161, label information, it says 91 is the minimum.

Hmmm...maybe I'll save the 91 for the ***** to the wall days?

my bike runs the same on both grades of fuel. I just never run ethanol in it which is hard not to do here in Corn Moines, IA. 87 reg. and you'll be just fine. higher octane doesn't mean higher performance by any means.

when filling up your bike just look in the hole and you can see where the filler neck ends. its usually about an inch down. you dont wanna fill past that because it could create too much pressure..from what i understand
