Still looking at at least a month or so before seeing any suitable weather for riding, i want to try my hand at making a tire change stand, something to help hold the rim steady and prevent damage to the spokes,etc when swapping tires. I think I saw deej post one he bought and would love to get a couple of pics to see how it is designed. Someone else I recall rigged one up with wood, that too would be nice to have another look at....searched for it but came up empty..thanks guys.

This is the one that I am buying.

 

I just lay an old tire on the floor, then set the rim on it. It is just high enough to keep the wheel from hitting the floor.

 

I'm taking my tires to your place, Drag.

 

A five gallon bucket works for me! Keeps it off the floor a little so you don't break your back too.

 

+1 Ha, Ha.......makes fixin flats in the middle of nowhere less stressfull, because you've been there.

But I do like the 5-gallon bucket idea, I'm going to try that.

 

How about one of these. Actually, this the tire mounter I use at work. As for motorcycle tires, just lay it down on some plywood (rotor side up). And work at it with tire irons.

I've changed tires on the floor, that's why I want to make or buy (if price is right) something secure for the tires and rims so my back can remain straight and my body upright, just the way it likes to be.

My bike tires i do on the tailgate of my pickup truck...all other tires i do by hand with a pair of irons and a tire hammer.Big rig tires are the easiest and only take about 40 seconds per tire to get them off the rim....The smaller 19.5" tires are a pita but still not too bad...I will say that atv and race kart tires are the toughest to do because the beads are so stiff.Tires are darn easy to do...you just have to remember that they only come off the wheel on one side...Unless they are big rig aluminum wheels and they can come off either side....don't skimp on the lube either, load 'em up with it.I also never balance my tires either.The tubless tires get a pouch of Equal balance powder and i've never had a vibe yet from a tire using it.
