Default What's wrong with me? I must be losing it!

Yesterday I went to change oil. It had been since May and 3000 miles ago, so I drained the oil, then I laid the bike over to make it easier to get the oil filter and spring in, and the gas started to leak out. So what did I do? One of the stupidest things in the history of this website. I lifted the bike back up and shut off the fuel and started the bike to "get rid of the fuel left, and after 15 seconds I remembered that I HAD JUST DRAINDED THE OIL!!!!!

I hope it didn't do any damage to the bike. Sheesh I'm glad my head is still attached or I would forget where I left it.

What the freak is wrong with me? Should I still even own a gun or be allowed to drive?

Ah I bet you had a panic attack after you realized what you just did. But 15 seconds isn't going to hurt anything. You will still have residual oil hanging around in there so there is still some lubrication there. like the manual says oil capacity something like 1.4 quarts ( or 1.5 if filter removed) or something like that but if you put that back in the bike your level will be to the top of the sight glass. so theres is always a certain amount of residual oil left over, what they call undrainable.

There are no Babbit type bearing surfaces in the motor so you will be fine.

LOL, could be worse my mate paid for a service on his old xr400 and on the way home notice it making a little more noise than it usually did and gear selection starting to get harder. Anyway this ended up being a $1400 rebuild because the mechanic 'forgot' to put oil in the bike.

Well all ended well, I guess. And I'm sure having been running synthetic for the last 7500 miles probably helped. Yea thanks ol guy, that makes me feel a lot better......I think.

Don't sweat it too much, there's still some lube there like mentioned above. Had a "what was I thinking moment" more than once.

I had a KX 250 once and sent the cylinder out to be bored and replated from LA Sleeve. Put it back together with the new top end kit in a hurry to ride the next day. Fired it up and after about 10 seconds..BOOM! Blew a chunk of the piston off and trashed the new cylinder. After a few choice words to the company they said I pit the piston in backwards! Ahh, that's why there's an arrow on the top....duh! So the the 400.00 turned in to 700.00 Now that was dumb...don't tell anyone ok? hahaha
