Have you tried opening the hinged cap? The 09 has a square connector for the digital speedo that looks like about 14pins. Although only about 8 wires going to it. I think I saw somewhere on here an Asian 2007 that had a digital speedo but it was different than mine.
Maybe the wiring harness is for an Asian bike? Or perhaps it is not a connector but a splice cap of some sort. Are the wire colors in pairs?
If it is a connector and not plugged into anything I don't think there is any harm in cutting it back and taping it all off, but if it a splice you better not mess with it.
I was able to push the wiring on mine up through the hole left by removing the key and keeping it out of the way. I will post a picture of it later.

Hmmm I will look into it more today, the digi spedo sounds possible. The cap looks like it is made to slide towards the wires. Like it is a cap that would be temporarily open. I tried to pry it open a bit but didnt want to force it, I will figure out the catch today. The wire dont look to be in pairs. I hacked the keyhole ring off mine
I'll post up more later.

Here is a shot of the "09" gauge plug. Doesnt look like the same plug. About the right number of wires.

Looks like everything takes it's ground through that plug. The metal clip in the end of the plug looks like it may connect pairs of wires??

Yup looks like they are all connected to the ground. Still don't know the purpose of the plug. Pretty sure the plug is getting removed, the wires cut back, and all soldered together. I'm not going to hack it today, so if you see something I am overlooking let me know.

I can see no harm in trimming it back. It seems odd that they would bring all the grounds to a common point. Can you measure between the common point and the frame, to see if it is isolated from the battery ground?

I know in the Kawi manual it says when jumping the battery with cables to connect the negative jumper cable to a solid metal part of the bike (specifically NOT the negative side of the battery).

I'm not sure why, but maybe the battery ground and signal grounds are different? Might be worth a quick resistance check from the foot peg to that plug to see if they are bonded together at some point.

I'm pretty sure that ground is ground, period. The how to hook up jmper cables is the standard hook-up procedure to avoid having a spark near the battery back when they gave off hydrogen when charging.

Hydrogen + spark = Hindenburg.

You would think so. It still odd that they would bring all those grounds to one point, all the way up to the steering head.
