That's your air injection system, part of it. Most have removed it, and plugged the nipples where hoses went in 3 places. Front of cylinder, front of airbox, and top of front of carb at the intaked boot (between carb and cylinder. This system injects clean air into header pipe at exhaust port to help burn off unburned fuel in your exhaust. This makes excessive heat in your header pipe. Smog control more or less. Your header pipe will be cooler without it. There are threads here about it.

Not unless you have vehicle inspection for emissions that might make it necessary to pass the testing. Otherwise it does nothing for or against performance.

Don't buy that junk. If you need to re-install it to pass inspection I would suggest that you let the group know that you need it. I'm sure someone has it laying around...although mine went straight in the dumpster.

Do you need it? I "may" still have mine. If so, you can have it. No State motorcycle inspection here in NJ.

How much of a difference would that make on an inspection? Over here new bikes get a 5 year exemption, then once a year after that. I'd like to remove it but might "carefully" remove it if I'll need to put it back.

Figure I can lean it out pretty good with my EJK before inspection. Might be enough.
