Rear pegs was a prerequisite for me, so I could ride with my wife on the back. We don't do cross-country trips, but she's always up for rides around town and especially when we're camping.
Last I checked, the KLX250S is a dual-sport bike. If I had wanted straight Enduro, I would have bought one.

Uses for the rear pegs:
1. Attaching the GL Coyote (luggage) lower strap. Great for a camping trip.
2. Poor buggers in a bad place. This spring, I carried out a rider we found on the trail. He had a broken collar bone - OUCH. Carried him from the trails to the parking lot where his buddies could take him to hospital. I took him out using another rider's quad - he sat on the back while I drove. If it had not been for the other rider there on his quad, which I used instead, Mr. Broken Bones would have been carted out on the KLX.
3. Passengers. My wife takes a spin around with me from time to time. I think she likes it. My son rides back there when he gets a ride to school from me.
