Default What's the going rate on a "new" 2010 KLX250SF these days?

Hi,

I've decided that the KLX250SF is the right bike for me at this time. I recently rode one and found it to be peppy enough for my purposes. I'm looking at used and new bikes.

I've asked 3 Kawasaki dealers (in western Washington and Portland, OR) for their best OTD price and I'm getting quotes of between $5000-$5200. Out the door (OTD) price defined here as EVERYTHING (cost of bike, DMV fees, TAXES, etc.).

One dealership told me that there's no wiggle room below that. The fact that they all came in at about the same price for bikes that are being sold new as 2010 models (controlling supply to keep prices up?) tells me that their probably isn't much wiggle room. I'm also not aware of any factory incentives for the 2010 KLX250SF.

So is around $5k for a new 2010 KLX250SF pretty much the going rate these days? Searching through the forums, I read about guys getting this same bike for under $4k OTD back in 2010 and 2011.

As much as I'd love to buy a new bike, $5k seems a bit much for this bike and I'm very tempted to take my chances with a used bike.

It's a 2010 model. get the 2012 for that price. 2010 model is already 2 years old even if it's brand new. Lower resale value.

2010 is the last year that the KLX250SF was imported to the US, so if you want a new KLX250SF, it's gonna be a 2010. Crazy, huh?

3 out of 4 Kawi dealers I've checked have at least one (and in 1 case, 5) of these 2010 bikes on their showroom floors.

I don't know if a 2013 model will be offered next year.

At those prices I'd see if I could get anything under 5K OTD. There is always wiggle room. But used might be your best choice as the 09's are the same bike and some low milage examples are comming in under 3K.

$4,999 is the msrp....i've heard dealer invoice price was about $3,500 when it first came out in 2009 and msrp was $5,599...so, guessing about $2,900 dealer invoice price right now...

$3,500 OTD probably would be a dealer owner just getting rid of their inventory to keep their numbers up...selling it at the owner's cost...

$4,000 OTD would probably be a dealer just getting rid of them and not really making much profit....but, enough to cover all the costs of sales, staff, storage, etc., and lunch money for the owner....

anything after $4,000 OTD is probably where the owner is actually making profit...if i was the owner of the dealership, i probably want to make at least $1,000 profit for this bike...after taxes, probably making $600 in his pocket...$5,000 OTD or higher is where the owner will actually make an income....

False. There is a 2012 model year.

FWIW i paid $3500 for my 09 in 2010. With taxes and tags it figures out to be just under $4000 (your OTD price).

That's odd. The Kawasaki website only lists the 2010 KLX250SF as the current SF model. However, it does list a 2012 KLX250S.

Same here...

Gotta look in ***MARCH*** though. That's when Kawi runs their promo deals. Dealers here had gobs of them last year for $3499... adding taxes, etc. put you at around $4k. Didn't see many advertised this March though.

I did see a Kawi Prarie 360 4x4 ATV that I *really* wanted to pick up for $3999 (new 2010 model with full warranty). Just didn't have the $$$ at the time.

Oh... your right. I had assumed that since there was a 12 S there would be an SF also. crappy.

It would appear that either the SF didn't sell well enough to justify a new model year, or that Kawi is still trying to clear existing inventory.

I understand that the bike is new, but it's still 2 years old, and I think the quotes you are getting are way to high. Just my 2 cents.
