what's the deal.....
on these KLX engine failures? I am very close to being able to buy a bike since my DRZ is verbally sold. I don't want to buy another KLX and have it seize. what's the general concensus on it's reliability? I know we all thought it was tough as nails, but is it really?

everyone i talk to about the klx's 250, 300..... says they are great bikes and bulletproof... and i just say " thats what they tell me"..... so im guessing they are good.

I had the cam compression release go bad, well at least make noise and they changed it under the 1st year warranty. Then the bike started making noise a few months later and they replaced the cam chain tension mechanism under the 2nd year warranty. Other than that I have been pretty happy with the bike. That being said, I wouldn't treat this bike like a KLX 300 or a race bike. Unless you want to rebuild them every few months. Just ride it for what it is, a good trail bike, all around DS bike probably not meant to go a 1000 miles a day or 9000 rpm's for too long. I plan on having mine when I'm 63 and even then it will still look good and run great............probably better than me.

Why does it matter? You will only have it for a few months anyway.[&:]

sinkoman- my reasoning to go back to a KLX is capability and price. the DRZ is too nice of a bike to take off road and beat to hell. at least my SM is, they're pretty bikes really. I want a bike that can go off-road right now, and as it sits my DRZ won't. i always planned on buying the dirt wheel/tires, but i should've known that that would never happen. we'll just have to wait and see. if it doesn't sell like it is suppposed to do, i will have those wheel/tires next summer. i really wish i could ride it with this setup, i bet it would rock with it's lower stance and huge torque. but it's an SM and I don't want to take that away from it. it really is a large bike when you just look at it, that's why it weighs 300 lbs. but it doesn't feel that heavy when riding it. it's hard to explain, an SM. they're just different.
