@mtbjunkie09: "I'm new to the off road bike world...Definitely don't want something quiet"

Warning: You are opening a politically charged can of worms here.

There are those of us who love the sound of an open exhaust, but save it for the track. Loud pipes on public streets and trails are not only obnoxious, but they give ammunition to the 'tree huggers' (as rgoers referred to) who attempt to restrict & legistlate our sport. The old "loud pipes save lives" is statistically incorrect and discounts the value of actually knowing how to ride as a way of saving lives instead.

Having said all that, I have the TBR slip on which is both cost-effective and LOUD.

It is unreal how much land different groups are getting the government to make unusable for off road bikes/ ATV's. Noise is one of the biggest weapons they use to get the govt to make these changes.
You can make your bike sound healthy without making it too obnoxious. I would suggest the FMF Q4. It is quite a bit louder than the stock pipe, but is engineered to be relatively quiet, under 96 db if I remember correctly.

Noise is a big one. Also erosion, which is actually where we unfortunately get lumped in with all other OHV operators. It's too bad because those of us on two wheels don't do appreciably more damage than hikers and MTBs.
It's the quads and 4x4s that get themselves drunk and stuck who do most of the damage.

Just in regards to performance gain. I would say that my aftermarket exhaust, header and rejet provided the most noticeable performance gain for my bike.

I did a 300cc kit after that and did notice more torque, but nothing like the night and day of the exhaust and rejet. Having said that I have no ability to comment on the effect of a 300cc kit without exhaust and rejet mods.

Back to topic I would just get the cheapest slip-on (or better still a second hand klx300 pipe) and rejet accordingly.

And for my two cents worth I hate loud pipes. My Barretts full system is way too loud and I feel guilt whenever I spot people riding wether it's refilling petrol in town or passing a farm. I really miss the stock sound level.

Ask anyone what the big bore does performance wise. Even with the stock pipe.

Just my opinion tho....flame away people....
That's probably the dumbest thing I've ever read on this forum, and what are "partial gains"?

Ohh come on zomby, dude I've posted way dumber things than that! The 'dumbest thing' has to goto Iowaguy without a doubt....

But anyways percentage wise the BB kit really gives the most seat of the pants gain out of all the mods I've done. I would have done it first if I had known. I bet others possibly can atest to that. But like I said flame away !
