Default What would you do?

Hello to all. I just purchased my first KLX. A fully stock 2006 with 1800 miles on it. Before I go any further, I would like to say what a wonderful wife I have for allowing me to make this purchase even tho she does not understand why I would want one (just in case she happens across my emails). My question to the group is....... What mods would you do first to better this bike? The only thing that I have came across since I have purchased the bike is replacing the handle bars. They seem a little low, of course I stand at 6-1. Any recommendations on the bars would also be helpful. Besides that, can somebody help clear up the weather in Atlanta so we can ride. Yesterday has really been the only day to enjoy the new toy since I got it on 01-04. Thanks to all.

1. Handlebars and some barkbusters (any brand as long as they're alloy.) I run Renthal 809 RC High bend. The Renthal 'Jimmy Button' bars are almost identical. I'm 6'0+ in boots.
2. Bashplate, the cases need protection and so do the rad' hoses as they're really vulnerable.
3. HD tubes and a rimlock on the rear (Talon rimlock is the best IMHO) if you plan on riding far from a sealed road.
4. Remove mirror from the front brake master cylinder. Expensive to replace in a 'gumby' fall.
5. Brake snake on both shift and rear brake levers.
7. Disable the clutch switch and the stand switch if they haven't already been attended to.
8. A 13 tooth sprocket ($15.)
9. Remove the plastic chain guard .
10. Run the tyres at 18 PSI. Good compromise on all terrain including sealed roads.

That should give you some ideas to keep you movin' and have a reliable, protected ride.

Here's mine all shiny when I added a new tyre.

1. jetting (stock jets or fmf/dyno jet kit for the better needle)
2. fork springs (couple of choices, i went pro moto)
3. tires (ive got the best work out of 908's up front and 606/t63 so far)
4. tank (ims in your case)
5. pipe (personal prefrence)
7. protection (bash plate and handguards would do)
8. bars (go big bar, believe me)
and if this is a play bike like most of the people here
9. 13 sproket (REALLY makes a diffrence for less than 20$)

free stuff that i can come up with

a. remove smog stuff
b. airbox lid (cut up or remove all together)
c. cut the levers (personally, i like shorty levers, i never brake/shift with all my fingers)

in any order you want, oh ya, post some pics of the bike or this thread is useless .

exhaust after you've jetted...muzzy is popular, or s 2-bros slip-on, HMF.
I also have a motion-pro vortex throttle that love.
utah skid-plate
some short stem signal lights (mainly so they won't get snapped off in the trails...or by your foot when getting on the bike)
have fun and welcome to the forum

Ahahaaaaa.. Another one of those guys that need permission to buy a toy... Some guys just do it wrong... I just tell my wife what I'm doing, and she says "cool!". I haven't had to ask permission for somehting since I was a kid living with my parents.

ANYWAYS, if you can get your permission slip signed, I would get a 13t front sprocket, foam air filter, remove airbox lid, DJ jet kit for KLX300, full exhaust, bark busters, skid plate, new tires, handle bar risers, and I'm probably forgetting some more stuff..

Good luck, and I hope you don't get scolded. haha
