Default what is up with this?

Hey guys I recently purchased a DJ kit for my 09. I went with a klx300 kit because people were saying on here thats the one to get. I installed it with the settings they recommended and it ran like crap. long story short in the end I have a 120 main and the needle on the first groove from the top. I have a Q4 muffler and air box mods.I don't understand how some of you guys are running 128 or 132 and your bikes run great. Am I not doing something right? My last question is that it pulls hard to 10,500 rpm, but then blurps is this a rev limit? Ive never ran it past 7,500 rpm till today. I live at 58 feet above sea level.

I bought my parts directly from Kawasaki, using the 128 on the main and 40 on the pilot, screwn turned 2.5 out. What's your pilot jet size running?

When you say air box mods, what exactly is that? Did you leave the lid off? Remove the backfire filter? What does run like crap mean...too lean, too rich, bogs down??? Need more info

I'm not sure what the rev limiter is set at, but I know on the 07s the redline is 10.5K, so I assume the same for the 09s.

Well not having done the work myself, I do know that I am running the 132 and 40 jets, and from sea level to 4000 ft it runs flawlessly.

Mine runs great with my mods in my signature at 1000 feet. I think you may need to up the main. As PSU asked, what air box mods have you done?

That's interesting. For your altitude, airbox mods, and a slip-on muffler, I can't imagine that a 120 main works...and the needle in the top groove also sounds super lean. What were your airbox mods specifically?

Do you also have a header? and which air box mods? Either of these will make a big difference in how much jet you can run. I'm running a 127.5 main that I bought from the local kawi dealer, 3rd notch. Lid is on, air scoop is off, screen is in place, and I'm running a megabomb header with FMF Q4, seems to run like a champ at the moment. I'm a little lean on my idle needle, but just an adjustment's worth. I'm around 700' altitude.

Just a reminder, I don't think that a 128 DJ main is the same as a 128 keihin main. When following other people's jetting, you need to know what they are using.

The corresponding conversion between Keihin CVK (Kawi) and Dynojet (DJ) is shown below. Therefore you said that you are using a DJ120 which is equivalent to a K128 for the main jet.

MAIN JET
K118 DJ112
K122 DJ116
K125 DJ118
K128 DJ120
K132 DJ124
K138 DJ128
K142 DJ132

Way too lean. Something's not right. Check your work. With a slip on at sea level you can run at least a DJ 128 main no problem!
