What other bikes did you consider?

RE: What other bikes did you consider?
I was looking at a WRF450, but felt that the KLX had enough power for now, plus was like 3 or 4 grand cheaper. I'd also have to spend a bit on legalizing the WRF for the street.
I was also cautioned that since I was a brand new rider of any sort, the 450 might have killed me.

This!!!! and I still am in love with it. SO powerful and amazing in trails and on my track. Just wish I could afford it
2 stroke version isn't as fun in the woods, with all the flooding and re-building and plug fouling and fuel mixing. But when its running good you got a hell of a machine

That's good info to know, thanks! I have to go to the Portland area for work temporarily, Boise is certainly a doable day trip.

Give me a shout if you come to Boise. Sorry, price correction from his email....
Yeah, the Husky is a great enduro. We paid $5950 plus tax for it in April
'06. I would love to have a TE450 or TE510, but the DRZ is comfortable and works pretty well on trail.

Was thinking the xt225 but after having a ttr225 I said hell no to the junk and started looking at others and found this great site and it sealed the deal on my choice

RE: What other bikes did you consider?
The klx was about the only bike that I looked at. If ktm would have had a plated 250 enduro I would have got that, and if there financing would have been better I would have considered the 450 and "grew" into it. If I was in in the market now looking for a 250 I would definitly give the new Yamaha a serious look.

RE: What other bikes did you consider?
I pretty much bought the bike that didn't look cheezy. I might have cost a little more, but in comparison, these KLX's are more than just a "trail bike". The yami's, suzuki's and honda's all had steel wheels, regular forks and more "street" oriented tires. The KLX looked more like a real dirt bike than any of them, so I bought it. Price OTD? It was the last one around in 50 miles. I got raped, but I bought the bike I wanted, which is all that matters.

I actually sat on the Honda XL 650 and it was sweet. Not like the really wide and heavy KLR, and in fact I still obsess about it to this day. Every time I go into the bike shop I look at the Honda.

RE: What other bikes did you consider?
In Australia we are spoiled for choice, we can register any enduro bike, WR's CRF's, Husky's, Gas Gas, etc etc. I didn't even consider an enduro because of the seat height and the outright performance nature of these bikes.
Dual sports we have the DRz's, KLX's, XT250's and I guess Honda have something maybe XR's? I chose the KLX because
1. Price, it was the cheapest and I got the 300 kit free with the bike.
2. It is liquid cooled, I like the reliability and low maintainance factor of a liquid cooled engine.
3. It's green [8D]
4. Although it is an old design it is the most modern and looks the most modern of the dual sports.
Cheers
