My findings - stock Kawasaki replacements are the only things that will work 100%. There's aftermarket levers that will work, but the brake one won't trip the brake light, and the clutch one won't pull the switch that says the clutch is in - meaning you'll only be able to start the bike in neutral - annoying.. Also - with the brake lever - the piece of metal that trips the brake light also keeps the lever from swinging forward..

So, if you want to keep the functionality, get factory replacements.

not to worried about the brake light. rear brake would still trip the light. starting in N could be a bit of a pain but workable.

Just disable the clutch safety switch. When I broke my lever the day I got the bike, I accidentally broke the safety switch while replacing the lever anyway. Just jump the wires together and seal it up tight with electrical tape and goop of some kind. Start it in gear all you want, just make sure the clutch is in or you'll get a bit of a jolt

The stock levers are pretty cheap, keep spares. You could add a set of bark busters if you think you are going to keep going through them at the current rate.

http://www.zeta-racing.com/controls/pivot/index.html

I found these surfing around.

They fold away on crash and they make them for the KLX250s & D-tracker. I think they are $50 each though?

Zeta makes all sorts of cool stuff for the KLX & D-tracker too.
