Default What do u fill up with????

Hi guys,

I am a newcomer to this forum and let me just say, it is a awesome forum jam packed full of relevant info, u guys have all done a awesome job!

I am new to riding and i pick up my brand new 09 klx250 in 2 days, "cant wait".

I was just wondering what petrol everyone fills up with? Do u guys use regular or premium with a higher octane level. Will the premium boost your performance and fuel economy?

I don't think i would ever use it but can u use the cheaper petrol that has a high ethanol level?

Thanks guys

I only put the best. When we raced in the 70's always used Sunoco 94 Octane which you cannot purchase anymore. No one can say that the best is not the way to go. Look at NASCAR and even your local racers who use racing fuel that has octane levels reaching 100! Better fuel will burn cleaner and you will see the results if you monitor your plug. That tells you eveything in how your engine is getting the proper fuel/air mixture and it is always burning clean. Another thing I do is to always run the carb dry after a ride, then you leave no excess fuel in the cylinder or valves and will keep the plug dry as well.

Use whatever the manual calls for. I use 90+ every time. What's an extra $0.18 each fill up?

I use whatever is there at the time. Its only .40 cents more to put in the best, but psychologically we think like we are driving a 30 gallon vehicle. I haven't ran the good stuff enough to give an honest evaluation of performance. But it just may make you think its better, and that counts for something right? Hey at least they're not giving out sugar pills anymore right? Right?.....oh great now I'm wondering.

I use BP (amoco) 93 octane in my truck and my 09klx whenever i can. Both definately run better (i think).

I tend to run the 93 octane. They're putting up to 10% ethanol in gas now, so I figure I better run the higher octaine. I heard once upon a time that they don't put ethanol in the Super grade, IDK if that's true or not. But nonetheless, its only a quarter (at most) more per fill-up to run the good stuff.

87 octane. no problems. Might *splurge* on some premium when it hits triple digits (the temp, haha) here in AZ in the summer.
