Wet and wild ride report

Wet and wild ride report
Well, despite the inclement weather, Rob and I decided to stick to plan A and hit the dirt.
I really wanted to get a ride in before next weeks Capel 200.
http://www.iarc.com.au/
And it was a great day out.
Tracks were generally very good.
A bit washed out and slippery due to recent rain but not dusty.
Lots of mud and puddles.
It was pouring with rain as we headed up Greenmount hill and when we arrived in Mundaring to fuel up, we were already cold and wet and questioning our decision to ride.
But all that was forgotten once we hit the dirt and started to warm up.
I really enjoy riding off road in the wet but the ride on the pavement with knobby tyres wasn't much fun.
For the locals, this was route today.
I have done this area many times before and the tracks are a good mix of difficult rocky tracks, pee gravel, hard packed sand with some dirt connecting roads.
There are some challenging hill climbs, tight singles trail and plenty of faster tracks as well.
I never take as many photos as I intend, but when you're focussed on riding, sometimes you forget to take pictures.
But I took a few.
This is fairly typical of the type of tracks that are found on the southern side of the farm pictured in the above route.
I had just ridden up this short hill and took this picture looking back down at Rob walking back to his DRZ for his attempt.
It looked quite tough given how washed out it was, but it turned out to be pretty easy in the end.
And a short movie of him riding it.
(I was kinda hoping he would eat dirt, but no)
(so I called him a girls blouse instead)
A view from the top.
This will give you an idea of the hill climb.
The "bottom movie" place mark is where I captured the short movie, and the "top photo" is where I took the top view photo.
A short break at a picnic area before screwing the mirror back on and heading home.
And thats that.

I think I'll try some of those trails in the next couple of weeks. Nice report BTW. Looks like you both had some fun. The ocean was huge. Dipped a toe, but the comfort of carpet slippers and hot cocoa kept me inside for the day.

It was a good day.
The thermals did there thing.
I need to investigate some better wet weather pants as the MX pants I use aren't much good in a down pour.
I can email you the GPX file if you like?
Or any number of files from out that way.
Just let me know.

Nice!
Tell the dude in the video on the DRZ to get off his ***, stand on the pegs, and rip up that hill!
Some people just don't understand that the faster you're going, the more stable the bike is!!
Ride on!
