well........i told you so.
Hey Travis,
I've run into a bit of a snag here. After sitting down and going carefully over all the costs, I'm estimating a total minimum price of $5,500 to get your KLX in the shape I want (331, tank, tax, etc). And that's quite a bit more than I got wife approval for. I kept getting stuck on thinking of the $4k purchase price as the final cost, but that's just not accurate for me, and $5.5k is more than my wife wants me to spend.
It's my idiot mistake, and I feel bad for canceling at this late date, but I don't think I'll be able to afford it. I know I could leave it in current condition, but honestly seeing so many people (including yourself) selling quickly due to low power doesn't make me feel good about that.
I really am sorry about this, and I hope you find a buyer soon. I'm pretty disappointed myself because I was looking forward to it.

I knew that would happen. It happens to me all the time- everytime i try to sell something. Oh well, it was going to cost me a lot to sell it. I have nearly $800 into my mods and i would've had to come up with $500 to pay it off plus another at least $2200 or $2800 to buy a new Husky. It's not that my bike doesn't have power, because i can wheelie thru 3rd gear. I just want something that will ride wheelies without so much clutch, some instant snap. I think I'm just going to go on with my original plan of the 331 kit and bill blue's 34mm pumper. if that don't wake it up enough i figure i better go find a used KX500. plus, i already have a 300 jug, just need the 331 kit and the carb. those two things are around $750 and that's cheaper than the above costs on a new bike and paying this one off. in reality, it's kind of a relief because i knew doing this was not the best economical move. kind of just like throwing away money on mods after one year. so looks like i'm staying around here. i just hate when people say they're gonna do something and then totally back out for one reason or another. i mean i can understand J's logic, but it's just really irritating. guess that's just me. if i say i'm gonna do something i do it. looks like i'll be calling the husky dealer tomorrow and telling them i won't be over. i really think that pumper carb is gonna help me out a lot though. until then.............

That sucks, Iowa. Sorry to see that happen to you. I know you were all geared up for your Saturday visit to the Husky dealership.
I remember about 15 years ago I was selling my cruiser and I kept having people call to say they were coming to look at it and they just wouldn't show.

Travis, if you're keeping the KLX and planning to do the big bore conversion, I might make a suggestion.
Contact Luke at LukesRacing.com. in Pa. He can do a bit of head work for you that will significantly improve the bucks to HP yield. Ask him about Web Cams too. It'd be a shame to do all that work and miss the punch he can add.
I'm sure you're aware of Marvin's bore and plate work from Kustom Kraft too.
You're right on target with Bill Blue, so rock on and good luck.

If you had your heart set on selling, then just keep trying. If not your plans sound great for the KLX, and as you said you could allways buy a used mx bike and have fun with that too and have 2 bikes(thats my plans).

If you decide to keep it, and if you continue on the 331cc + pumper path, you will be surprised at how much it wakes the bike up. As others suggested, keep an eye out for a cheap beater bike. I think Stiffler was looking into that, i.e., getting a used KDX 2-stroke or similar for woods racing.

RE: well........i told you so.
thanks guys. really though it's more prudent to keep it and keep working with it. reading brian's experiences with his 331 and pumper, it sounds like it will keep me entertained. i'm a lot smaller than a lot of these guys so i'm sure it will be noticeable power gains. right now i think i'm gonna order me a bill blue carb and try that first before the 331 kit. i want to notice each mod separately to gauge how they improved the bike. heck, who knows. with the instant snap of that pumper i may not feel i need the extra cc's. why couldn't kawi just build this as a 300cc bike in the first place?

Someone on ThumperTalk surmized that if Kawasaki would have put on a FCR pumper on the KLX300 in the first place, they would have sold way more of these bikes. I would tend to agree - it's really one of the only differences between it and some of the more higher performance bikes. I think they went with 250 on the KLX250 because it is sold worldwide and in other countries things get a lot more complicated (regulations, insurance, etc) running on the street with >250cc displacement.

Iowaguy, Don't know if you saw my other post on the TM33 upgrade but this carb has made a pretty big difference. If you keep the KLX and want more pop,I highly recommend a pumper. Way cheaper than a new bike. Add the 331 kit and I think you will be quite happy. I went with the pumper first and think I will be satisfied for awhile. Will probably go with Bill's sleeve option to get to 331cc when it gets too cold to ride.

I must be the only one here that likes the way my stock carb works when rejetted?
It might not have the snap like a pumper, but it sure does run super clean. I happen
to be totally happy with the way my 250 runs. Of course this is coming from somebody
that owned a new Superhawk 996 and XR650 within the last two years. I rejetted
both of those too. The Superhawk was a lot of fun to rejet and it didn't seem to
need a pumper carb to pull wheelies. It had twin flatslide 48 mm CV units.

i'm hoping i feel the same as johnny cause i got my carb in the garage right now just waiting to be installed. flippin' snow on the way too[:@][:@]. any advice on installing it would be appreciated. when i jetted the stock carb i couldn't figure out how to get the carb out of there and ended up doing the whole jet kit with the carb still in there. i think it was because i didn't remove the throtle cables but that's just a guess. like i said any advice would be reallyappreciated.
