ok. my question is, when i'm riding off road and above, say 6000 rpm, going at a good pace over bumps, whoops, etc and snap the throttle i hear a noticable rattle that only last a second or two or until i let off the gas. i havent investigated it much yet but it sounds like the chain is hitting something. like maybe the metal guide under the front gaurd? anyone any experience with this? could a loose or tight chain cause this? or is it normal?? this happend before i ever changed sprockets also.

 

I think I know what you're talking about, doesn't really bother me, I didn't notice any unordinary rub marks on anything so I don't worry about it. I always thought maybe it was the chain slapping the guard/guide on the under side of the swing arm in front of the sprocket.

 

I heard something sorta similar when downshifting on the road. I've only got 200 miles on it but the chain was due to be tightened, it was just a hair past 2.5 inches of slack, its now just shy of 2.25 and my rattle has pretty much gone away, or I just can't hear it now.

 

i'm pretty sure it is the chain hitting up there. it's obviously not the engine bc it only does it over bumps when the swingarm is flexing a lot at higher speeds. thanks for the input. keith[sm=smiley20.gif]

 

I have that noise too when I accelerate from a low rpm I think it might be the chain slapping too I tightened it up and will have to see on my next ride.
