watch for deer
Watch out for deer!! About 2 weeks ago I was heading home from a friends house, and I turned off a dirt road onto a paved road that leads into the Ouachita National Forest. I was running it through the gears and going between 50 and 60 when my lights hit a big doe standing in the road. I was looking at her when I caught a flash from the right side of the road. I didnt even have time to check up. I hit a buck in the neck/front shoulder area. He rolled off my right side, and I guess he got right up and ran off. I was stunned but stayed upright. The only damage to the bike was a broken right blinker. My only "injury" was a bruise on my right forearm where his antlers caught me. My shirt and arm were misted with blood. I guess the blood came from his antlers (they are pretty soft and growing fast this time of year) I will add a pic of my shirt and arm to this thread when I figure out how.]
I had another deer suprise me in the National Forest today. Crossed the road at a full sprint about 20 to 30 feet in front of me. I may need to add an after market pipe just to scare them off!!

RE: watch for deer
Glad you're OK, gizzard. Consider yourself very fortunate! Deer are most definitely a menace to us on two wheels. Anyone whose seen the aftermath of what even a small deer can do to a car at even low speed can appreciate that these things mean death to motorcyclists. They can be active at any time of day or night, but the most likely times for an encounter are 5am-7am and from 5pm-2am with the most happening at the 6-7am and 6-7pm times. Personally, they scare the hell out of me and I'm constantly scanning for them, but often it happens so fast you don't even have time to blink let alone make an avoidance maneuver. Damn rats with hooves.
