Default Valve shim diameter

Looking to buy a shim kit. Is 7.48mm the size I need?
TIA

Or are the shims for a KX250F the same?

Awesome! Thanks a lot for including the link too! They are on the way.
Last check the valves were good, but I think I hear a slight tap that wasn't there before.
Just want to be ready once I crack it open.
Might try the cam mod while I'm in there. The KACR might stop me though...not sure I can press it off and back on without damage.

bumping this.. i noticed when i was doing my 351 kit, that i was struggling to get an inspec sized feeler gauge under the lobes. But at the time i didn't have any spare shims. So i just put it back together using what i had, which were four 3.00mm shims (i measured them individually) This is after 6k

Anyway i'm now getting around to rectifying this, and i thought it would help to mention that Amazon do 5pk shim kits. $7ea. Cos we all probably start with 3.00mm shims from stock and zero mileage, and valve clearances only ever get tighter, For $14 delivered its a safe bet to order the following before you go for the check.. Hot Cams 5pks

part # 5PK748280
&
part # 5PK748290

That's x5 of the 7.48mm diameter 2.80mm shims & x5 of the 7.48 diameter 2.90mm

That should see you good for a good 15-20k of mileage i'd say.

Maximus, just either take the spring off or wire the shoes in the disengaged position. The engine spins easily enough at near zero degrees that it is clear the CR isn't needed. You can look at the MCM link I have in my signature to get an easy to follow directions for the MCM rather than wade through the unnecessary explanations in the thread. it also shows how I wired my CR disengaged after removing the spring. I didn't like having moving parts that had no reason to move and I didn't feel like waiting to get the CR pressed out in the event I found I needed it... I didn't and yes I tried starting my bike in single digit temps, which it did.

Amazon.com: Hot Cams HCSHIM16 7.48mm O.D. x 2.70-2.95mm Shim Kit Refill Pack: Automotive Amazon.com: Hot Cams HCSHIM16 7.48mm O.D. x 2.70-2.95mm Shim Kit Refill Pack: Automotive

This looks like it would work well if one didn't want to purchase a full pack.

It is missing 2.50 - 2.65, but those could be purchased in 5 packs of the required size as mentioned earlier.

I've adjusted the valves twice since then. I bought a whole kit from Hotcams. I live way out of town and at the time it was my only motorized vehicle, so I wanted to be able to crack it open and do it right away. The price of convenience was worth it. Besides I have shims for a bunch of bikes, not just the KLX.
I think my shims are all at 2.9 right now, originally 3.0.
