I did the Mototune break-in from zero miles, and no oil being burned here.

I'm using Mobile One for bikes, and after a couple thousand miles it will start to use oil. I change it, and wont' use any for a couple more thousand miles. So when the oil drops to half glass...it gets changed. As for the valves, mine make noticeable noise under 2500rpm. If they got quiet, I would think they're too tight.

I change mine oil and filter every thousand k's (600 miles), it a small sump and filter.
