A tyre question.... I mean a tire question....

RE: A tyre question.... I mean a tire question....
I dont like the dunlop 603's much either myself and willgo for the Dunlop d606's by the looks of them. My bike is used alot on roads soIwill need a tyre that caters for both and the d606's seem to fit the bill. Price doesnt matter to me when it comes to good tyres, I prefer to have the best when it comes to safety and riding. Thanks for the info guys!
Cheers!

I'm trying to find tires too, problem is I ride 80/20 street/dirt, yet that little 20% of offroading is what i'd consider pretty hardcore trail riding.
Can't decide if I should sacrifice grins in the twisties for grins in the dirt

Mrbones, I know the feeling, my KLX was very sleepy in NJ with the stock front tire. I'm a convert to running the most aggressive DOT ***** I can find now.

Michelin AC-10's They wear fast but are a great all around tire, especially if you primarily do trail riding. DOT approved. Do a search for Michelin in this forum and you'll find more info.

I'm finding the Michelins to be wearing about the same as my Trakmaster K776 combo did, however the Michelins were $20 more per tire and I don't care for the skinny front in the soft stuff. A Trakmaster will get you 2000 miles on the 250, I commuted 150 miles/wk and trail rode on the weekends with it and its still got another 500+ useable miles to it. I took it off to try the Michelins. The K776 however was totally shot at 2000 miles.

From reading on a few other sites, the consensus seems to be Kenda K760, Pirelli MT21, Dunlop D606 or Metzler Karoo for best off road performance from a DOT tire.
For curiositys sake, what's the fatest tires we can fit on our bikes? 100 in the front and 130 in the back?

Not all tires are created equally, case in point, the Kenda Trakmaster, for any of its given sizes, 100, 110, 120, it is actually smaller than rated. The 100 should be our stock size tire, when in fact it is narrower than stock, and that follows up through. My 110 Michelin was HUGE compared to the 100 TM. The 110 Mich. is pretty close to if not the same as the 120 TM. Mine is eating through the inner floppy fender that protects the shock.
130 may or may not fit the rear for the reasons above, 1 brand 130 might fit, and another will be too fat.
I personally wouldn't go any wider than a 90 front, its a pretty happy medium as far as grip vs flotation in the soft stuff. You can run a 3.25 K270 front, several members have and reported good results, but its not terribly aggressive.
