Turkey Day Desert Trip

Turkey Day Desert Trip
Well folks, the family myself and a bunch of friends spent the thanksgiving holiday in the Mojave!
One of our rides was out to the "motorcycle memorial" I had been there several times before but had not been there in a couple of years and was suprised that some improvements had been done to the husky and additional plaques had been added in fact I even knew one of the folks back from my racing days.
For you folks not from California this place is not very accesible and is about 30 miles from any paved road, It is reall a graet place for someone who loves the desert to spend the final resting.
I dont have much history on the whole story behind the memorial, but it is my understanding that the Husky was the first thing placed out here and stood by itself before additional items were added. I think it is private property because the BLM wold not let this stand out here in the desert, and of course the turtle people would claim that the site would endager the desert turtles.

The Group, missing a few!
Hey, you just gotta pose with the bike!
Stopping to find a Geocache on the way back to camp!!

AwesomeMole!! What a great outing. Looks like you guys had a blast. What's the story with the Husky. Did someone drive it out and dump it off or did it actually break down out there and it was left there as a memorial? Oh and its nice to put a face with the Mole

Deej,
The bike is sitting in concrete and has a plauqe when the bike was placed there with the riders name 19??- 198?, kinda like a tombstone. Im sure there has been a lot of ashes scattered there.
Here is a additional photo from a few years ago (another plauqe)adjacent to the husky for a diffrent rider, and yes the boots are still in remarkbly good shape!

Hey,
That looks like a lot of fun. I was just down there on the 10-11 on Nov. We stayed over by Spangler Hills. Did the ride out to some of the radio towers and had a great time. Our campsite was off of trona road. I think we are going to go back this Feb for a few days!
