Trying some new things.
I had this original windshield from my '08 KLR and thought it may work for the KLX. It does. If I'm planning to do some serious brush beating I can remove it very easily.
I added a "Nomadic" rack and removed the tool kit. I used some stretch cord and mounted the tool kit to the tank/seat.
I've tested these out on some very rocky up hill, bouncing around and they seem pretty solid.

You could get them from Kawasaki, still the same on the latest. Try KLR650.net for a used one cheap. I replaced mine right away with a taller one as do many KLR owners.

Then you wouldn't understand. It keeps some wind pressure off as your going down the highway. I have to ride some distances to get to the dirt and it helps. Besides it looks cool.

It doesn't fold back. Stays in the same position. It does move a little since there is only on pivot point where the upper shield attaches to the bike. My neighbor already harvested his grapes.

Nice fit Tom,
The one I used was from a Suzuki of some sort. Did you have to heat the tabs with a heat gun at all?
There is a big difference with and without a windshield. If you are looking at making some miles that is the way to go. I was surprised at how little you notice it in the woods.
