Default Trying to muffle intake sound

I am running a recommended set up from Klxster. It yielded great results. Only drawback is running lidless, the intake noise on aggressive throttle almost drowns out the exhaust noise . KLxster recommended that doing the MCM mod would greatly lessened the intake growl. Not sure if I want to tackle that just yet, want to read a little more so I completely understand how to correctly do it and not eff it up. For now, any suggestions on how to lessen the sound? I tried putting the lid back on, and it completely screwed everything up, popping and stumbling like a **** anything greater than half throttle, so went around the block returned home and took a little off again. Has anyone tried anything like putting a piece of uniform in the space behind the stock filter? Not sure if that would help.

I did the same KLXster lidless setup and have no problem with the sound. To each his own. What Jets did you put in and did you superglue the washers at 1N?

Sounds to me like the only solution here to run an open header, no muffler. 🤪
Wait, you expected a serious response from me? Sorry, my bad. I am feeling whimsical today.

I did a Dj 140 main, 40 pilot. Did you do the mcm cam mod? I did not (yet). I doubt the jetting would really affect the intake noise much, if at all. At 6’2” 225 lbs. maybe it’s the bike yelling “GET OFF” in Kawasaki language.

Look in my signature for a link to the mechanical directions for doing the cam timing modification. I pulled only the necessary information to do the work, none of the conversations and all. It is accurate and concise. If you have ever done valve shimming with shim under bucket the modification is easier than that... no caps to remove, no shims to get out. Just getting timing marks correct. Just like doing cams out valve shimming.

Marcelino commented about the intake roar and pointed out the timing change removes a fair amount of it.

MCM completely removed the intake noise on my bike. Do the MCM, you won't regret it. Will remove that noise, give lots of low down torque, and make the bike sound great.

Just wondering why you went with a 140? Supposed to be a 144 lidless? I did 144-main but kept my 35-pilot, only because after I took it apart I realized you need a special screwdriver to get to the pilot. 35 seems to work fine though. Other than loud intake is everything else OK?
No, I have not done the MCM mod.

I am running the stock header, klxters recipie calls for A 140 with the stock header, And a 144 if you’re using an aftermarket performance header. Other than the intake growl the bike runs mint now. Just have to figure out what my fuel mileage range is now, it really sucks it down compared to before. Thanks for the info on the MCM mod I will look at your write up and see if I have any questions. Biggest valve work I ever did was valve seals on a small block Chevy. I have to do this soon though because jet ski season is coming up and I won’t have time to fool around with the bike and go out on the water!!!

Ahh yes I remember now 140 for stock headers. I assume you did the needle with washers on the top with superglue? I remember him saying if you didn't go lidless ,go with stock DJ setting. He would be the guy to ask. Worst case you have to rejet. Bummer is if you superglued those washers you have to buy a new $75 DJ kit. I want to do the MCM but I'm a little hesitant as well. I'm sure guys in here can walk you through it if your patient and post pics. Good luck! Where you at in the USA?

Yep, I super glued the two washers on top of the c-clip. I’m not going back in there to rejet again, I would try the mcm first. I think I am going to keep reading about it and attempt it. Going to ask a machine shop by me if they can press the ACR off the cam like described. That would be a step out of the way. Does anyone have any videos of the key points of doing the mod? I’m out on Long Island NY ekim250.
