Trying to muffle intake sound
I am running a recommended set up from Klxster. It yielded great results. Only drawback is running lidless, the intake noise on aggressive throttle almost drowns out the exhaust noise . KLxster recommended that doing the MCM mod would greatly lessened the intake growl. Not sure if I want to tackle that just yet, want to read a little more so I completely understand how to correctly do it and not eff it up. For now, any suggestions on how to lessen the sound? I tried putting the lid back on, and it completely screwed everything up, popping and stumbling like a **** anything greater than half throttle, so went around the block returned home and took a little off again. Has anyone tried anything like putting a piece of uniform in the space behind the stock filter? Not sure if that would help.

I did the same KLXster lidless setup and have no problem with the sound. To each his own. What Jets did you put in and did you superglue the washers at 1N?

Wait, you expected a serious response from me? Sorry, my bad. I am feeling whimsical today.

I did a Dj 140 main, 40 pilot. Did you do the mcm cam mod? I did not (yet). I doubt the jetting would really affect the intake noise much, if at all. At 6’2” 225 lbs. maybe it’s the bike yelling “GET OFF” in Kawasaki language.

Marcelino commented about the intake roar and pointed out the timing change removes a fair amount of it.

I am running the stock header, klxters recipie calls for A 140 with the stock header, And a 144 if you’re using an aftermarket performance header. Other than the intake growl the bike runs mint now. Just have to figure out what my fuel mileage range is now, it really sucks it down compared to before. Thanks for the info on the MCM mod I will look at your write up and see if I have any questions. Biggest valve work I ever did was valve seals on a small block Chevy. I have to do this soon though because jet ski season is coming up and I won’t have time to fool around with the bike and go out on the water!!!

Yep, I super glued the two washers on top of the c-clip. I’m not going back in there to rejet again, I would try the mcm first. I think I am going to keep reading about it and attempt it. Going to ask a machine shop by me if they can press the ACR off the cam like described. That would be a step out of the way. Does anyone have any videos of the key points of doing the mod? I’m out on Long Island NY ekim250.
