Trouble starting when wet
Just had my bike out in its first rain storm. It was in the rain for about five hours and was giving me problems when trying to start. The bike was cranking (battery was strong) and I tried with and without the choke several times (just to make sure it was engaging) but the bike would not start easily. It eventually fired up after trying about ten times or so but when it did finally start up it wasn't idling too nice for the first few minutes. I'm thinking either a bit of water in the fuel or water in part of the electrical system. Would water in the electrical system (say around the spark plug) cause bad idling though? Is there a common area to check for weather proofing? I bought some dielectric grease for the spark plug and I also just discovered a small leak in my petcock that was never there before. Maybe the water got into the petcock somehow and mixed a bit with the gas. It only leaks when turning the tap or touching it roughly and doesn't leak enough to leave a puddle. But maybe it is enough to let a bit of water slowly leak in.

I don't know about the newer KLX's, but on the 2000 KLX300 there is a hole in the spark plug pocket to drain away any water that gets into that pocket. If that hole clogs up, spark problems with water accumulation.
