Trail tech headlight install

Trail tech headlight install
I started to install the headlight assembly by removing the stock headlight, mounting frame and speedometer. I then drilled out the breakaway mounting bolts that hold the key switch on. You can see the breakaway bolts sticking out. I removed them with vice grips. All that stuff weighed in at 3.3KG or about 7. 25 lbs That is a lot of weight sitting up that high, right over the steering head. That weight included the handguards.
I cut the new headlight connector off and soldered the stock connector to the wires so that it will plug right in and then fitted the new headlight.
The plan is to replace the Acerbis guards with a set of HDB guards with integral turn signals and mirrors and a set of Fatbars. I am going to replace the key switch with a much smaller one that will mount to the HDB top clamp along with some switches for power at the handlebars for heated grips and gps etc. Once all that stuff is mounted I am going to redesign my windscreen and gps mounts. I think I will shed about 5 lbs altogether, and have a much cleaner installation which will come off in about two minutes. Here are a couple of more shots of the assembly.
I will post the rest of the installation as I go. It might take some time.

Good work there. I think I personally would have gone with the Kaw green one, but that is totally preferential. I saw a pic of a KLX450 with a green one, and it looked good. I like the look of this unit. I think it would work well with my Vapor instrument panel.
Have you tried it out in the dark yet?

Nice!
Good to see the post. I have a Trail Tech and Vapor on the way for install over the next week or so. Working on carby and bearing maintenance now. Does the ignition switch need to go? Or can it stay, as I'd rather not remove it yet.

Whoo hoo,, you got that pretty quick. Looks really good to me. That white gives it a nice clean look. I actually just ordered the black X2 yesterday. I thought I was going with the green one, but then started playing around looking at colors. I looked at the green, black, and white versions. I ended up doing some rough work in MS paint to help me get a better idea what it wold look like. Looking forward to seeing more of what you did and what you think of it in the dark. Were the instructions clear? Any issues with the install?
Mine should be here by the end of the week.

Don't laugh at my mad skillz in paint.

LOL!...dan, that's awesome! I saved a shot of that pic for sure...LOL! Hey!...where's my helmet? See, I think that proves the green is definitely the best color...LOL!
dan, the black looks pretty good on yours, what with all the black highlights. Hey, did you guys notice the "KLX" graphics that Trail Tech sells for this light? It was only about $10.

You will have an easier time of installing than I did because the 09 front fender is no flat on the to where it meets the bottom of the light. You can see it in the pictures. I built an aluminium angle bracket. I will post pictures later.
The white one was in stock the green one had to be ordered. In the end I like the crisp look of the white. Either way it is still a lighter light.
I am going to mess around with it while I wait for the rest of the stuff to come. I think the light has a better spread than the stock one but I don't think it is any brighter. I don't ride in the dark much anyway. If you want a lighter bright light then the HID is the way to go. Mucho pesos.
