Your horsepower figures show rear wheel horsepower for the KLX250 and countershaft ponies for the KLX450. It doesn't make anywhere near 56 rear wheel horsepower. Put it on a dyno and you will get about36 to 38 HP. That's still over double the power we have, but c'mon, don't slap the 250 around as you kick it to the curb!
The KLX250 countershaft HP is 28, so to be fair you you should say 'from 28 to 56 HP with one upgrade'
Congrat's on the new bike. I'll be searching the forums for a ride report. [sm=smiley20.gif]

That is either a real loose dyno or that is crank shaft HP. Just because it's a dyno does not mean it is at the rear wheel.I get all the magazines and none of those bikes make that kind of power at the wheel. Also gearing has no effect on HP. It just gets the HP you have to the wheel at different speeds depending on the gearing you do.

Those are pie-in-the-sky, best case scenariofigures at best. That magazine just lowered a notch in credibility.
Let's say that my estimate is low and go with the figures from that magazine. Using the graph youposted, that would put the KLX450 at 6HP MORE than a KX450F!. See what I'm getting at? No waydoes the KLX450 put-out 56 RWHP...no friggin way. That same magazine had a separate test of the 2006 CRF450which dynoed at 46 RWHP. They also claimed an earier test of 48. So, depending upon what dyno run you use the KLX450 could put out up to 10HP more that a CRF450! I call BS on that. The manufacturer NEVER quotes RWHP.
However, myconservative estimate is herebybumped to about 42RWHP [8D] Oh, and gearing has nothing to do with it.
I do agree that it will have some kick-*** power though! Congrat's KLXcouple.

wait a cotton pickin minute.........36 horse for a 450? to be nice, you are very wrong. the KX 450F makes right at 50 horse stock at the rear wheel. a new CR125 makes around 38. the new KLX 450 may even make more since it's geared for woods. if you don't believe me, here's the dyno printout.
you will be gaining around 32 horses. that's sweet. congrats on the bike, it will truly be the bomb.

I too have been looking into the KLX450. More for trails and such and seems to be a nice ride. On paper that is. Congrat's KLXcouple in your decision.

RE: Trade in one of the klx's
you're a funny guy you know that? you finally got some other person to back your nonsense up and there you go riding his shirttail, or what I like to call reassurance. i see it all the time in my field. it's right there in print, this is a very prestigious magazine. it's a dyno. i know of no mags that dyno from the crank, that is a lot more technical and the mags just want to strap on a bike and go at it. you called me nieve, actually it's naive, but looks like here it's you who are naive my friend. if you think a 450 only makes your quoted number for horsepower, well, i've already said you were wrong. it's right there in front of you. also, the mag says the CRF makes the most, the KX makes almost 50. are you blind you don't see that? so i'm curious, how much horsepower do you think Stewart's 450 puts out? those are close to 60 to 65 at the rear wheel. they're always bragging about how powerful these bikes are when they're racing supercross, well they're not really that much more powerful than a stock bike, maybe 10-12 horse more. there are restrictions and limitations on what they can do. i just don't get you, it's like you want to argue all the time like me, but here is a situation where it's right there in front of you and you still deny it.
also, i never said that gearing made horsepower, but cams do. the KLX will not use the KX cams.
