In order:

1) upgrade suspension. (big power isn't needed if it doesn't handle properly)

2) Big Bore kit (after the suspension is right then it's time to go fast)

3) Exhaust (in conjuction with the big bore)

4) Pumper carb (more responsive)

5) up grade cams (more grunt)

After you do these five things you won't recognize the bike that you originally bought.
All the other stuff is just farkles and accessories.
Gearing change is not at all needed once you have the power!!!!

Hmmmmm. Handlebars. I've always wondered why people go to the trouble of swapping out bars but the "bent bar" comment clears that up. I don't ride real hard but bent bars aren't out of the question.

The stock handguards are pretty silly. I'm looking for new guards too.

I've only been looking at the full wrap guards because they don't look as likely to colapse on your hands.

Any recomendations there? I've heard barkbusters a few times. Who sells them.

Nobody is into the quarter throw throttle? I think if I go with a pumper carb I'd consider a shorter throw throttle but the 2 seem to cohabitate the same intention.

Maybe this question should be broken up into catagories since so many mods require other add ons.

Off Road KLX wish list / favorite mods.

Performance: intake, exhaust, carb jetting, pumper carb, cams, 1/4 throw throttle and tweaks.

Torque: sprocket changes, cam,

Suspension: Rear spring, shock, lowering links, forks, adjusting rake, etc.

Traction: Tires, suspension etc.

Protection (bike and rider): Skid plate, hand guards, handle bars radiator guards, brake guards, chain guards, etc.

MAJOR mods 300, 331, 350 jugectomy, auto shift tranny

Misc: Lighting, storage / carry systems, plastic, fuel tanks, tool / tire kits, to slime or not to slime and where to slime, gel seat, grips.

The stock bars will bend very easily with a light drop. Some of the cheap aftermarket bars aren't much better. I have a pair of aluminum Renthals and they have taken numerous hits(some pretty hard) and they have not bent yet. There a little pricey, but I think there worth the money.

If you send your stock cylinder to Bill Blue and find good deal on a used exhaust on fleabay, You can actually get the large bore kit for little more the the price of a new, full exhaust system. Just something to think about.

Looking back on it all though, I'd do supspension first. For you mostly dirt guys, I'd say safety first with the bark busters, etc.

That's just about the perfect list, right there. I also agree on the gearing, I preferred the stock gearing, esp. after big bore.

4. Tires get the power to the ground (traction)
5. Gearing for your setup or riding sytle
