Took the Clarke plunge
So I finally did it and called them up today placing an order for the kawi green tank (item code for the tank is 1480) for those interested and dont wanna look it up. I wanted black but i wanted to conceal that space between the shrouds as much as possible so I stuck to the same color. And its kinda different.
Anyway talked to the lady on the phone and asked her if they had still had problems with the leaks, and to my suprise she actually knew what I was talking about right away. I was expecting to be put on hold and talk to someone else who knew, but she told me what they did with the brass fittings to fix it and explained why some of them may have leaked etc. Always good to have knowledgeable staff. (They put a groove in the fitting or something to fix it)
So I orderd it today thinking i wouldnt get it until march or april, but to my suprise it should ship in a few days. I said "really?" to her and she appologized because of them catching up on shipping orders. Told her that i was amazed at how fast it would be, since I thought they'd be short stocked. Should get to my place in Whitefish in another 4 or 5 days.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
Cheers

Nobrakes' KTM tank actually does look good though, nearly factory.

Haven't seen it up close, but I got the impression that the gap is because the tank is just "fatter" and they just made it that way to fit more gas.
It's not made for the KLX300. Their website says "KLX 250S DUAL SPORT (2006-2007) 2.7 Gallon"

Hmm, you'd think they'd get a better fitment ironed out. I don't know though. Isn't there another brand of tank that some have mounted that fits pretty good, just larger in size? Seems I recall a clear tank someone had that just looked like a large plastic factory one. Maybe I'm hallucinating. I like the factory tank, and at just .8 gallon more for the aftermarketI'd just rather keepthe steel oem tankfull. I'm not bashing the aftermarket at all so let's not go in that direction. I understand you want longer range. I'm just trying to figure out why their tank doesn't fit better.

I just received and opened the box ........ it's really a nice piece. [sm=smiley20.gif]
I have dismissed getting one of these since they came out mainly for the reason that IG brought up. I haven't seen a aftermarket larger tank yet that looks like it fits the bike. But back in August I bought a 4.2 gal clarke tank off ebay for my XL and just put it up on the shelf. I put it on last Saturday and it's actually starting to grow on me. (translates: I'm getting used to the ugly)
With the KLX I've always been on the short end with how far I can go on a tank. I usually avarage about 70 miles before having to refill. And now that I have the 331 kit installed and have increased the main jet in my carb, I can imagine it getting worse. Riding the way I do I'm always on the throttle so my fuel mileage sucks. Anyway, going to Eureka Springs in March, I want to be able to make it to the fuel stop with out carrying my bottles. (last year I needed a gas IV) I'm going to try and use some green electrical tape on the part of the tank that shows and see if that makes it look better.
It's going on tonight!! [sm=icon_rock.gif]
