As to melting the air box...I applied some leverage on the pipe and bent it out, once it was all tightened down. I used a crowbar. I went from 1/16" of clearance to at least 1/4", maybe even 1/2" IIRC.
If done with slow easy pressure, the brackets will cooperate first, which is what you want.

pipe bender so I'll give that a go!
I know how you must feel. I only had to drive 10 hours round trip to get my 09 KLX250s.
I'm just glad I did it early enough and had decent weather, I had to drive over a tall mountain pass that's probably got 2 ft of snow up there by now. I didn't want to buy snow tires for the truck, just to pick up the bike.
Congrats on the new bike.

Nice bike, congrats! Nothing like the feeling of going to get a new bike!
I did 18hrs/1150miles only stopping to load the bike back in Feb, loved every minute.

Back in August when I went to pick up my new bike I was like a little boy on Christmas morning. I sat at the dealers shop for four hours waiting for them to prep it, and charge the battery, and test drive it. The last Kawasaki (and dirt bike) I owned was a 1973 KX 250. It was also the last new bike that I bought. After it was loaded and tied down, I got in the truck, started it, and when the radio came on, it was playing the Cars: "Let the Good Times Roll." For the younger folks here; "Kawasaki Lets the Good Times Roll" was their sales pitch back then:
. I sat for a while and thought how this was meant to be. Enjoy!

A few of the free mods are done, will be finishing up the rest plus replacing some plastics, airbox, tail light and blinkers, klx300 jet kit, header, and new front tire.. all should of those should be done hopefully before January.
I'm really excited about starting the work, even more excited to get out for a ride today!

What are your tie downs hooked to, looks like they are not much of an angle, I have one of those bars where you can tie down 3 bikes, but I always use the outside loops. The tipping factor is greatly increased the closer the tie down locations are to the line of the bike.
