My Kenda back tire has....or had till yesterday around as close as I can guess 4500 miles, and I suppose I could have gone another 1000 miles. But here is my take on tires. We all know that the more aggressive a back tire is, the shorter it's life on the street. The less aggressive, the longer it will last, but off road it will suck, and sometimes even leave you in a pickle. I would rather wear out a tire faster but have it when it really counts off road than to get 5000 miles out of it. The 606 that I had on before the Kenda was awesome! I never slipped once on the blacktop, and trust me I corner hard, and fast with a lot of lean. The Kenda was just as good on the blacktop and of course got twice the miles on it, but everytime I went off road, the back end was all over the place, even through the soft dirt and mud puddles. And if you got into some of the deep moss we have here in western Washington, you might as well have been riding in sand. And I hate sand. Anyway, kenda K270 good for long lasting on the streets, but sucks on anything loose or muddy. Dunlop 606, wears faster on the streets but awesome on the off road stuff. I guess it all boils down to how fast you want to replace tires, and where you want to ride.

FWIW, its been said before, the Kenda tracmasterII is a great rear tire for off road, the front not so good.

 

i got close to 3000 miles before the front and rear were toast.. like i said before, for the bite it gets on road and off this has been the best tire i have used so far.. the TKII's were awesome offroad but smoked in 1000 miles.. from what i have read and seen from riding once with a guy that had them the Kenda K270's are junk in the dirt (guy was all over) but they are great on road and last long. if anyone has found a tire that fits the D606's profile in regards to nice off road/on road balance that last longer pls make yourself heard.

 

OK I'm sold. I will replace my stock 605 with the 606 for my trip this summe.

I put some Pirelli MT-21's on and I really like them. I have about an 18 mile stretch of slab to ride before I get to the forest.They're DOT approved, hook up well on the road, and work really well on hard packed rocky forest roads with sprinkle of light gravel on top. There also good in rocks, hook up far better in mud than the stock tires,and have been wearing well.

 

What are folks paying for these tires? I run the 606s on my KLR and have used the Kendas in the past - the Kendas are about $40. How does the price of the AC-10s and MT-21s compare to the cost of 606s?

 

I just paid $114.00 for the 12-90-18 rear tire through the shop on the Yamaha card. A little higher than other places but I like my shop and they got it in the next day. I think my last 606 I got 2500-3000 miles out of it. One note, the 606 when it gets to 25% left, is a lot worse than a Kenda with the same percent left. Bigger ***** that are worn become a liability. So don't let the tires get to low on tread....street or dirt.

 

i hate to be the downer on the 606s but i just dont get the miles out of them like everyone else does. maybe its cus i ride daily or something but i get only 2000 or so useful miles and anything past that is pushing it. dont get me wrong, if you can get the 3000 or so miles a lot of people get with the 606, its a great tire and does quite well off road, but it just doesnt last that long to me. im switching to a trackmaster on wen. so i see how i like that.

 

good luck with your milage on that.. im one of those that get 3000 miles out of a dunlop.. i got barely 1000 out of a TKII. you never state what kind of terrain you ride and what percentage of it is blacktop..........
