I've got a new rear D606 130/90x18 I'm going to mount just for a couple D/S rides. The tire I have on now is ony about half gone, but I want new big sharp ***** for the D/S events.

Hmmm I should probably try the research thing before I just vlurt out a dumb questions... but here it goes anyway...

Hypothetically:
If a buddy had the KLX250SF could we just swap rims and tires and try it out?
Or are they more different than that?

The k270 120/80 is between the 4.6 and 5.1 in width, it looks about the same height as the stock dunlop 4.6. Can post actual numbers when i get one mounted on a rim. But for now it looks to be a good oem refit size for the 250. Unless you wanted a tall tire to raise the bike or be able run lower psi, or raise the effective gearing, etc. then consider the 4.60.

RimBender: That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I'm glad the tire is not taller.

I spend most of my time between 10-40mph. I probably would not care if my bike did not exceed 55mph.
I am looking forward to the post after you have it mounted on the rim. Snap a photo or two if ya can
Thanks!

I think I need one of those.

Sorry it took so long, got the 120/80 mounted today, but it's going on my 250x instead.

The 120/80 mounted is 4.61" wide and 3.2" tall (vs. 4.2 x 3.8 for the 4.60) an inch shorter and almost a 1/2" wider. IMHO a better size than the other kendas for my little 250's.

I'm leaving the 4.60 on the klx, have been on a few good DS rides and it works fine, but next time I'll get the 120/80. There are pro's and cons of taller tire, pro is taller footpeg and case height, con is it gears the bike up a little noticable when crawling around in 1st.

how close the tall 4.6 is to the mud flap:

side by side, 120/80 on left, 4.60 on right:

another just for the heck of it, 4.60 on bike:

Great pics and great info thanks!!

I just got back from a ride to San Diego and back (F800GS ride on this one).
And they are here in my office. I got the 120/20 -18 for the rear and the 3.25-21 for the front.

I dont need a front yet, but it bumped it to within $2 of the free shipping mark. I got a new lens fro my Dragon goggles... I'll try blue

One more trip on the old stocker, then I'll swap.
I bought the 47T Rear too, I think I need a new chain before I can mount that sprocket....

BTW, tires look really big in my little office

I quoted myself... HA!

I have the 13T/47T sprocket setup now... YEAAA BABY!

OK... one more trip on the old tires
Last time out I did a burnout that threw a rooster tail of dirt about 20 feet!!! That is soooo much fun. I did have to lift the rear tire out of the hole I dug

13T on front and 47T on Rear is a 520 x 110 chain.
That allows the rear tire to go pretty far back, but still have a little room left for adjustments.

Got it up to 69mph (indicated) I'll have to take the GPS to see what that really means in actual mph

Yeeeha it is fun!

I just put K270 both front and rear and they are great! the 4.5 x 18 is definetly taller which is great. Took a few miles on road to break in and feel 100% secure but now I am leaning the turns and the off road traction is sweet! True 50/50 tire. The front is a bit narrow compared tothe stock Dunlap and I may have went larger if possible, maybe?? I did a lot of research and this was my top choice for price and user opinions. I wanted something I could actually run on the street to work and off road on the weekends that last a while. I am not much on changing tires every few miles nor can I afford it

My tires were very worn and the thought of a blowout was not worth it. I changed them myself for the first time - easy. I even felt goatheads sticking through my front tire rubber just waiting to pop my tire.... replace them tires!
