Tires
#22
I'd put the Maxxis 6006 at 50/50, maybe 60/40 dirt oriented. On the MSF course I can lean far enough on them to drag my side stand, and I've never been disappointed in them on gravel or mud. I've bought two sets of them and been pretty happy. I feel like they are a good value. I'd guess that if you are used to running a really aggressive tire, you'll be disappointed. But, if you want more than the trailwing, go for it. The reviews over at Bike Bandit and ADV all seem to be pretty good too. I'll admit that I was originally drawn to them because I love their mtn bike tires.

Watch the 606's on the road, they have a set on a used bike at the dealership and they are squirrley on the road, corners are intense. I can actually lay it pretty good in a corner with my stock 605's and 99% of my riding is on the road. I just hate to go to a street tread, they tend to slide along curbs instead of grabbing and climbing over. This is important when someone pulls out in front of you! Had to do it last week, crazy fool didn't even see me and then yelled at me like it was my fault--- people can be so mean! I've got about 2100 miles on my stock and they look about half.

I have been running Shinko 244's on my KLR650 and will probably try them on the KLX when it's time for new rubber. Plus they are very reasonable in price. They are a good gravel road tire but don't know how they will do in the mud, I'm sure the 606's would be a better option in the mud. The best prices that I have found for the Shinko's was at BikeBandit.
