Has anyone taken a Look at the IRC GP1 Dual sport tire. I remember they were a big name with mountain bikes, but haven't heard anyone mention them yet. They look alot like the kenda 270's. Anyone have any input on these? Found here

Okay So im kinda lost on all the tire spec stuff. My question is what is the range of tire size can we use? Can we go up to the dunlop 606 size or do we have to stay with the 100/100-18 for the back? Im not sure if I like the kenda270 not as aggressive as the one that we have. I don't want to go to a 50/50 tire but I want something that will not wear out as fast as these factory ones. The Kenda trackmasterII looks a bit to aggressive for what im looking for. I would like something like what we have but better.. Am I going around in circles and beating my face agains a tree on this subject. Probably!!

Ahahah,
I'm in the same boat as you Gravy, the 606's look good. I was looking at the trackmasters, and they look pretty darned aggresive too me too, but seems like alot of people like them. I was reading some people who changed from the trackmasters to the 270s and liked the 270s just fine for the dirt. I may just give them a try, and if I end up falling off my bike alot more then we'll know the reason why. Has anyone tried the 270s vs the 603's on the dirt and notice a big loss in traction?
How would those track masters II feel like going down the highway at 85 MPH?? Will it be so bad that its actually scary to ride at that speed, cause I need to go that fast when I hit the highway to go to the local trail, and the 603 tires now feel fine to me.
Is there any compromise that fits me and gravy's bill.
Trackmaster II = 90% dirt - 10% street
270s = 50/50
I would like - 70% dirt - 30% street, something like we got with the 603's, but the 606's don't look like they fit according to the sizes.

Glad to hear that im not the only one. I have been looking at this tire and I really like it compaired to the D606. But again the size thing. This tire is:

MAXXIS DUALMAXX DOT 110/100S-18 REAR

M7000 10% ON - 90% OFF ROAD
AGGRESSIVE ***** FOR SUPERIOR HANDLING, STABILITY, AND SELF CLEANING
COMPOUNDED TO PROVIDE EXCELLENT BALANCE FOR WEAR AND OFF-ROAD TRACTION
DOT APPROVED

located at the same web site as all the others. So can we go up to a 110/100s-18 or am I just spinning my wheels. Pardon the pon!!hehe

I used to run Duro Medians on my KLR which look just like the Bridgestone 302s. Great dual sport tire but I fell twice in the soft mud so I'm going to stick with the D606s or Kenda 270s (which have very good offroad traction despite their 50/50 claim). I don't imagine the 120 size will be a problem at all.

Todd, now you got me fired up! I went threw 5 Duro's in 6 month on my KLR. Those f'in tires kept ripping at the center lugs, got real tired of changing them every 800-1000 miles. After talking to the Duro rep, he said I should wait a season to try them again. Damn good thing they were warrantied. OK done with that. The 302's have a much more agressive and deeper tread than the Duros also.

And the debate goes on,...LOL. Well as you all probably did I looked at every tire in the http://www.americanmototire.com/ Website, along with the 6 or 8 catalogs that I have received for free in the past month, and I am no closer to deciding on a tire than I was two weeks ago. But I do have a quick question. Can someone list our tire sizes with the corresponding metric or whatever the other size is that is supposed to be the same? I may be wrong, but here is what I think.

3.00-21 for the front which translates to 90/90/21
4.60-18 for the back which translates to 120/90/18

IS THAT RIGHT? [8D]

4.60-18 = 100/100/18 which is real close to (but not exactly the same as) 120/90/18 The average 120/90 tire will be slightly wider (1/4") than a 100/100.

I put the 110/100-18 Trakmaster II on my bike. As close as I can tell, it is exactly the same size as the stock 603. This was the best conversion chart I found. It is from Kendausa.com.
