Is this tire okay for my 2006 klx 250s?

So stick with the 120 then haha?

Then run a 110. That is plenty of traction for a 250 AND a significantly lighter tire. I think TNC would tell you that, if he hasn't already. After all, the much higher performing 250 MX bikes run 110s, not just stock, but the racers replace 110 with 110. Believe it or not, on smaller engines it is a plus to be able to break the tire loose with a fan of the clutch, to keep it in the powerband rather than to bog down and out of the power.

ll you're going to do with a fat rear tire is bog it down whether you notice it or not. Unsprung tire weight will affect both suspension and acceleration in a negative fashion.

Run the 110. Big tires are for Harleys.

I run a 110 on My CRF and it is about twice the hp and still works great. I run a 110 Trackmaster and a MT21 on the front of my KLX. Works way better than the 606's I had. I ride 80" off road though on my KLX and never run more than about 15psi.

I don't know what specific sizes will fit my 2006. The 110 sounds like the one I want, wonder if they have them in the Dunlop D606?

I spent some time this morning trying to find a D606 in 110 at the typical sites and didn't have any luck. Saw the Pirelli MT21 in a 110. I run this tire in a 130 and it works okay. It's the only DOT knobby the local shop had the day I went in to get a new tire (and I didn't know enough at the time to know better). I'm looking forward to trying one of the narrower tires I now have as soon as the current one goes away.

So which 110 would you recommend then?

For me, the Pirelli MT21 is great for the terrain I ride, which is 75/25 dirt/street and I want the dirt knobby performance. I wouldn't be afraid of going for a the D606 120 if that's the one available and if that's the tread you want. Didn't TNC say he has a D606 in 110 somewhere?

I'm also looking forward to putting on the Trials tire I have in the garage. They were cheap finds off CL 3.5 x 18 (very narrow, about a 90 equivalent). Before I found them, I was thinking of trying Pirelli MT43 as they seem to have a fairly good review.

FWIW I haven't run a DOT tire for a while now. Run a regular knobbie and you can get the 110 you want. I have had an IRC VE33 110/100 on the rear since last Sept. Two big weekends of rough trail riding and a few hundred miles of back and forth to work on them and they are holding up well enough. I put a straight knobbie on the front ( I think it's an IRC also) shortly after I got the bike in 08. I have a Michelin Starcross I spoon onto the front when I am doing some real off roading.

No. 120 is the smallest size.

Do some real measurement on treads, the 120 may not be that much wider than a 110 full on knobbie. There is variation from tire model to tire model. From what I'd learned in a tire seminar by Bridgestone, there can be up to as much as 8mm variation one side to the other. That is why some tires look wider than others in spite of being the same metric label. In the 80s we noticed the 130 Metzler sportbike tires were significantly narrower than the 130 Bridgestone. It also seems that the DOT knobbies are sometimes narrower in the tread than the same size off road tire. Take a look.

This is one place where I would vary on the labeled sizing. If the 120 is close the 110 go with it if you like that tire. But the real point earlier was don't just go with big because of the mindless "bigger is better" thing. Understand what going bigger can do to performance. Now you know.
