Wow, checking tires, seems like a dickish thing to be doing. I don't run DOT tires at all, but I've never heard of anyone around here getting checked for them. I guess checking tires might be more common in an area that has a concentration of DS trails. Maybe they view it more like checking for a fishing license.
Did he find anything wrong with any of the bikes?

 

One bike didnt have DOT tires... Went back to camp and changed them, had some spares. Luckily. He didnt give a ticket as we said we would go change the tires now.

 

Sounds like a technical term! Bet no one will have to look it up though,
