Default timing chain?

with the timing chain springs instaled they chain should be rock tight. No slack at all, is this right? If you crank the engine over slowly do you feel resistance about half way through or should it be smooth all the way throuh tell it gets back to Top dead center?

Not sure what you mean.
You will get resistance on the compression stoke.
