Default Time to add some modifications

Well Kermit has about 1000 miles on her now so it's time to give her some more zip..here she is.

Thanks to many of you on this site I have already added a few small things like:

Utah skid plate
Some Wolfman stuff
Pelican Top box
Flahing LED BRAKE light
Factory 909 bars
harris grips
Acerbis hand guards

However...now that the weather is getting colder its time to get more serious.

My basic questions revolve around air intake and exhaust...fuel, and smog stuff.

I have searched a ton on this site and wonder if there is a consolidated list of the air box mods including part numbers etc as well as exhaust mods..(thinking of a full Muzzy system ) since that is what many of you have done. When it comes to fuel do you have a list of the jets and needles etc and associated part numbers...I was not thinking of a pumper but rather altering what I already have. Next of course would be the smog removal/alteration mods.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations you may have. I do a fair bit of wrenching already but if there are any special tools I may need please let me know. Also if there is a particular order that these should be done in ??? I plan to do them all in one shot.

Thanks again folks....this site is a great help.

Hey Scott, nice job on the bike. I really like the tank bag, that is one I need to do soon, you know so it can carry the Blackberry, the GPS, the digital camera, radios, beef jerkyand what ever other items I can come up with. As far as the other stuff goes, I have the full Muzzy, and jetted to 40 and 132, take the lid off and put it in the box with all the other stuffthat came off. Never touched the smog stuff. I'm sure someone else has more information.

Commonly asked for part numbers for those items required for opening up the bike and doing basic maintenance:

NOTE: Part numbers of the form xxxxx-yyyy or xxxxx-yyyyy-zz are Kawasaki part numbers. All others are specific to the listed product's manufacturer.

Ron Ayers and BikeBandit.com are good sources of these parts at a discount.

This is from the common part numbers thread. Its got part numbers for a couple jets, the N1TC needle, and everything else you need to re-jet. Also has the muzzy part number and the kdx snorkel if you go that route.

This thread has pics of removing the smog stuff and what the whole tangled mess looks like when it's off: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...91&page=50

My $.02, If you can't do the carb and exhaust at the same time, do the pipe first. This way you add the carb last and you jet it for your pipe, etc...

ITS TOO CLEAN. Go find a mud trail and then take a photo.

I'm stuck with a curse. Everytime I go riding, the bike always get muddy. But besides that, at least it shows that your taken good care of it.

deej you never took off the smog crap? Thought you did for sure.

anyway dirt surfer made a sharp write up that was the backbone of my mods. check it out here:

https://www.kawasakiforums.com/m_100000/tm.htm

with the airbox i personally tried a couple things and then said f$#ck it and threw the lid into my spare parts box.

cheers

Here's what made my KLX a fire breathing dragon (if you can imagine a little bit, at least compared to stock):
BigGun full exhaust, but any full system will do the trick, it's just preference I guess.
N1TC adjustable needle and tiny components (washer, clip)
128 main jet, oem pilot jet, 2.5 turns out on a/f screw
removed smog system- totally a breeze to do, so you should do it if nothing else but to clean up the underside of the tank
drill the crankcase vent hose opening to the airbox to recommended width, can't remember at the moment
oh yeah, drill the slide when rejetting
When I removed the airbox lid, my bike ran like crap so what I did was remove the oem snorkel and trash it, then just enlarge the opening that the snorkel went in. Kept the airbox lid but it got more air as well.
install a Uni-filter air filter
do the 13-tooth sprocket asap ($15 tops)

this may sound like a lot, but really it isn't. these two threads will walk you through it all. I would disregard the rerouting of the crankcase- more trouble than it's worth imo. I forgot to add that all of these mods could be done by yourself for under $500; higher or lower depending on exhaust system. the BG can be had for $380 at www.motorcycleparts.biz. the FMF is very expensive and the Muzzy is a little more than the BG I think.

https://www.kawasakiforums.com/m_100000/tm.htm -this one was posted at the top already. didn't realize that, sorry for the plagiarization of your plagiarization.

are you actually drilling the crank case or the vent in the airbox?

That's a fantastic write-up by DirtSurfer. That one ought to be added to the "Welcome" sticky thread along with the select few others there, IMO. Deej, how about it?
