Everytime I hear that this bike is under powered and "not a beast", I find myself just not having the same thoughts........................
Now I know It's because this is the first bike I've been on in 20 years, butit's GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can go up hills fine, Iride down hills fine, I go through sand, dirt and mud fine, I canride withaDRZ 400 in the trails just fine. It is only lacking when we are on a straight away or on the road, other than that I keep up/lead just fine.
It islighter than the 400 and looks so much meaner.....................
For me, this bike is perfect.
I just added the 45T sprocket and some new Trakmaster tires and let me tell you that I am 100% happy with the performance.
I am 5'8"165 lbs and the bike pulls me around in the trails just fine.
So, if you are an average rider who isn't currently doing a Supercross Circuit and doesn't need to rip through the woods at blazing bursts of speed, this bike is perfect........................
You would be hard pressed to find a better forum packed with a nicer and more informed bunch of people than right here. So, if the people are any indication as to who ownswhat type of bike, than I am very happy toown a KLX 250S!!!!!
Now, I know many if not all would love for this bike to not be so plugged up, but it's great for what it is and I have never once regreted my purchase............I still just open the garage door and peek in for a fast look when I haven't rode in a while.

YEA WHAT HE SAID!!!!!![8D] Couldn't have said it better, and I too am coming from not having a dirt bike in over 20 years. With all the mods, and as heavy as I am, the bike ROCKS!!

Hey vfrpilot, what do you have against 450's! [>:] Just kidding.
It was my CRF450 that his son was looking at and I agree with vfr that until a smaller bike's engine size is the only thing limiting a rider there's no real reason to move up.
I raced a CRF250R for 2 years even though I weighed 220+. After I felt that my skills had improved significantly that's when I moved up to the 450.
If I bought a new bike today I still think I'd get the KLX250, but I'm out of dirt bike riding for a little while so that my wife can finish her education and get her Bachelor's degree.
If I end up with a KLX250 I'll be on this forum a lot, for sure!

+1, the tight technical stuff around here is tuff to survive at 25 mph. Are people really runing around at 50+mph off road?
maybe I'm just old.

The KLX is well balanced bike. Small enough for the trails, powerful enough, after the mod's, for the road and it's fun to ride. It's a trail bike first thats road legal. If you want more road bike, than trail,go with the KLR, XR-L or V-Strom. The DR 400 has great power and is trail ready out of the box. Check out the Husky's and KTM's also.
I hope this may help.
