Thanks for all the info.

So it seems that Suzuki and Kawi teamed for only that one year 2003/2004. And Suzuki let kawi have a version of the DRZ400.

Agreed I think I'll hold out and get a newer version of the bike. My goal would be close to stock with a jet and air box mod only. Maybe 1000 miles or so on the motor. Then agian, maybe year 2003 or newer does not matter if the price is easy to swallow.

arbitrarily I would like to stay below $3000. The guy raised the price of the bike I was looking at - strange technic, I hope it works for him... but I'm out

Maybe his wife wants him to sell it and it is one of those... "But honey, nobody wants it." Who knows.

I wonder if you could rent one? Any body know of that kind of business... in So Cali?

Thanks for all your help. I still want one...
I wonder if Kawi will be making there own 400 one day? I looked and th site but there is a big gap between the KLX250S and the KLR650, you sacrificed the plate and get the 450, but that is probably much more bike that the 650

Rambling on....

If anyone knows of anyone trying to unload a KLX or DRZ400, let me know.
Thanks

Now Kawasaki have the 450, I can't see them making a softer 400.

In fact I can see Suzuki dropping the DRZ for a more modern design in due course. But at the moment, the DRZ still sells well and there upcoming 450 enduro bike will not be plated here in Aus at least.

It seems to be the way things have gone in recent years.
Even the top selling XR400 got the chop when Honda released the CRF.

LOL ...... You did real good for not knowing, a plated R blows away a regular S. Well done, it will be real easy to sell.

Don't worry about the extra performance, everything is still bullet proof.

Too much power?
Its not too savage and you will get used to it.
Oh, and then you will want more.

But its more than just more power.
Its way more responsive and the suspenders are better stock as well.

And and has been said, just don't get an s version DRZ.
Get the e version or a KLX.
Pretty sure Kawasaki didn't do a green version of the s.

The down sides are its a fair bit taller, carries a bit of weight and carries it high as well and no 6th gear.
But even without a 6th gear they still go OK on the slab.
