Thinking about buying a KLX250S

look around at all the dealerships, sometimes they will take one in on trade. There is quite a few MXr's that buy these thinking they are getting kx250, yz250 and are really disapointed- I love nothing better than to show up at any ride or race and make them eat dirt- in the end it comes right down to riders and how "smooth" they can ride.
Stay away from Stealerships if at all possible.......

When I bought my '09 in the spring of 2010, the sticker on the bike was 4700. At that point I had done my homework and I offered the dealer 3700 quoting that I could buy one 300 miles away for that much or less. 5 minutes later he came back saying if I bought it today it was mine for that price.
Granted since the one you are looking at is the model year, you may not have as much lee-way in your dealings. Doesn't hurt to check around for a holdover somewhere else.

While I haven't taken delivery on mine yet, I have money down on a 2012 and can't wait to get it.There were no previous years available. I am getting it for more off moderate road use. I haven't rode a dirt bike in a long time, so I figured this would be enough to get me back into dirt riding while also letting me do street riding in the winter and leave my ZX out of the grime. The low horse power may be a good thing in snow and ice. I figure it will help keep the skills sharper for street survival by riding all year. The bike in stock form seems very dependable and easy to maintain. Basic modifications seem easy to do and well documented at this forum. This forum is a great resource filled with very knowledgeable riders who like to have fun with their bike. If you do a lot of highway miles, it may be under sized. It seems like a versatile bike and fairly inexpensive way of getting on two wheels. After riding a TU250 for awhile, you will be used to modest horsepower on the street and it's more about fun factor and usability. The KLX seems to have a lot of potential for both. Not everybody can buy a 10 grand dual purpose bike to play around on and "act" like an Adventure rider. This little bike is the goods. The KLX seems to be almost a throw back to seventies bikes in purpose with modern technology.

I just bought (a few months ago) an '09 (Ca. model) which is the same as the '12 (except cosmetics) with 480 miles on it for 2800 from a private party found on CL 20 miles away from me. He even delivered it to me in his truck and picked up payment at the same time.
Once you sign the papers the value will drop way off. If you like that kind of thing go for it. If you don't, shop around and take a drive to get one.

Thanks for everyone's help the last couple of weeks. I bought a 2012 KLX250S today with 1 mile on it. It didn't take me long to start feeling comfortable on it. I'm looking forward to taking it out tomorrow for a ride. BTW, my out the door price was $5,160.

Nice! One mile on the odometer,,,,,,,,,,,,,, seems like so long ago. Enjoy the thousands of miles you will put on it.
