Ya have to bring old stuff up every now and again....there is alot of newbee's around here..... The wheel bearings come out of the hub, you have to knock them out from the opposite side, says the service manual. So how much grease would they need?

i'm pretty sure the wheel bearings are sealed, which means you can't actually grease inside them.

The manual seems to indicate the bearings have a shield, and doesn't mention anything about greasing them. It says they can be inspected in place, but if they're removed, they should be replaced rather than reinstalled.

Moly grease is for assembling engine parts, ie new cams, certain bolts etc., it is designed to dissolve when the engine and oil gets hot.

The Manual does not specify a particular grease for the axles and the speedo thing. I use the same marine grease that I use on my outboards and boat trailer bearings. Great stuff, besides I've been known to take a jaunt on the beach, so myklxis familiar salt water.

YYY is right about having to replace bearings if removed, well thats what the manual says.

Would you just be able to grease them still in the hub? remove the seal and try to get as much in as possible? My tires are on my front port at home, so i will be doing this shortly...

Well, I don't see how you could get grease in the bearings, as they are sealed. I just clean them up real good (wipe off salt and sand) with a rag, make sure they spin nice and smooth, and slather (technical term) them and the axle with marine grease. We're not talking rocket science here.

My understanding and experience with prior bikes (and skateboards...) is that you don’t ever grease sealed bearings. When they go bad (start to make noise or in a worst case scenario, freeze up) you replace them.

I have never greased my axles since the load and rotation is transferred to the bearings. In my opinion greasing the axle would just be creating a dirt/sand magnet in your wheel[][] .

Considering where you’re headed the first of the year, I’d recommend keeping that axle clean and clear of grease….[8D]

Hope that helps..
