Talk me out of dumping my KLX 250...

As long as the price is right, I’ll be trading mine in at the dealer I bought it from for an 06 WR450 with 700km on it. But even if the deal doesn’t go thru I’ll continue to ride my KLX and enjoy it, but if the right deal comes along, I’ll be trading in the KLX.

C'mon guys.......what did you expect? This is a 250 enduro bike! If you wanted the power of a 250 MX bike thats what you should have gotten. I'm 49 and weigh 210.... I bought this bike to go trail riding, and quite honestly, I haven't been on any trails yet that I could get above 4th gear. If you're someplace open enough to do that then I'm not sure that I would call that a trail. Now, pulling wheelys in the parking lot ..... I can understand. I have to give a little effort to do that, where my sons RMZ250 can do it at will in fourth gear. But guess where he rides? On the motorcross track! He has rode with me on trails but the bike can't do extended slow trail riding, it overheats, and the rebuild interval is way to short. The bigger 400's are proportionately heavier so everything is a trade-off. So if you are wanting the power of an mxer in your dual sport then I would have to lean in the direction of getting rid of the klx.

I'm thinking that with enough money (more than $1500), you could make this little bike run like a "real" dirt bike. It doesn't have the piston, cams, gearing, exhaust, etc to run like a "real" dirt bike because it's a dual purpose, and that's where the compromise comes in. The way you worded the question made me think you need two bikes, one for the dirt and one for the street.
I've completed all the mods except adding more cc's. Every time I crack the throttle, I think "I'm too heavy for this bike". But every time I get where I'm headed, I think "that was a great ride!". I'm 49 and 210. I'm always last to the trails end. I always arrive with a big grin on my face. I don't think you're going to be quite as happy.

I really like my Klx since I've completed all mods, except big bore kit and better tires. I can wheelie my machine very easily in first and second gear. I own a Kx 250 also but I like my klx better, Reason is klx delivers power smoother, no trailer required and less maintenance. I can also ride farther as klx uses less fuel and much more comfortable. Now I could also say I like it better than my Zx7r but I'd be lying. However sometimes I think I get in less trouble with the Klx 250.
