Default T63s or 606s?

I will change out the stock tires this winter. Plusses and minus on these two?

Haven't ridden the T63s. I do like the 606s as an all-around dirt tire. Conditions around here range from soft sand to ledge rock and everything in between, which the 606s have handled quite well at low pressure. Even ok in the mud. And the price is ok too.
Ran my first set as studded tires last winter and got 4,000 miles out of the rear, front looks almost new. I have the second set on right now and have ridden some very gnarly mountain climbs, they never let me down. I find the traction characteristics to be very predictable.
But tires are like...well, what type of oil do you use?

My fiance's xt225 just got wrapped in some t63, good in the dirt, not great, the 606's will be far better in the rough stuff, but are not as good on the street. t63 is 60:40 and the 606 a 40:60 I believe

Default Tires

I have run a few 606s. My bike came with 605s and the front washes out easily. At 60 and riding with one leg, I won't be tackling too much technical off road stuff, but we have 1000s of miles of old two track dirt roads and then often some long pavement sections to tie it together in a loop. I hope to get a gen 2 KLR to ride long roads and the KLX to ride any of the tougher 2 tracks. I mounted a set of T63s on a previous bike and then sold it shortly after so I never got a chance to see how they worked. The T63 front has got to be better than the 605s.

I have run both types on the rear of various different machines(KLX, KLR, XL's, DR) only had one 606 front on an 85 XL350R, hated it..
The D606 wears better on all surfaces, better traction(rear) in dirt. Front sucks in dirt!!! More road noise & vibration than T63. Costs MORE$$$
T63 CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!! Smooth running & consistent handling/traction on pavement, Lil better than average on dirt. Wearing faster than my 606 or IRC GP110.
As a 39yr old, 250cc fire road riding, dirt PUSS, I would go T63. Based on cost & comfort. But I do believe that any big bore would shred the T63 real fast!!!

I like my 606s great on pavement or dirt! I run 15# air.

A 606 on the rear and a T63 on the front and you can take on the world. In the terrain I ride in, and on the asphalt I roll on, it's a toss up between the 606 and a T63 on the rear as far as performance and life span. The front, on the other hand.....I'm no fan of the 606 on front of anything. Actually, as I think about it, the Kenda K760 Trakmaster II has out performed and outlasted either of the two you have mentioned....sorry if I've gone off topic, but in case you aren't aware of the other options.....I, too, stick to forest service road type trails and connecting asphalt. I'm a year rounder...unless the ice or snow pack is too perilous, my butt gets where it's going on two wheels.

I'm breaking a promise I made to myself about staying out of tire threads.

I second the kenda trackmasters. They are durable, cheap and decent off road.

Hey, it's not an oil thread

Shinko 244 will serve your purposes for about $120/set, if you can get used to the **** squirm...

I think air pressure is a huge factor in how a tire reacts. When I first got the KLX, I hit the first dirt rode I could and scared myself ****less, because the tires were aired up to factory 22psi. The bike felt very jittery, bouncing off and around large pieces of gravel. Aired down the tires and was suddenly rolling over those pieces of gravel and my comfort and speed went way up.
D606s suck when aired up, but I like them a lot at low pressure.
