Default Swapping out KLX motor with a KX250 2 stroke, Possible?

Title explains it all, I came across a 92 KX250 motor that I think would be awesome for my KLX. How hard would it be to put this in my KLX? I would imagine it would take some amount of fabricating but nothing I can't do, I work as a machinist.

A friend and I put a CB900 motor in a Honda 250x quad back in high school. It's not hard if your good at that type of thing it's just a pain in the ***. Remember you need to power the lights etc. and I believe that bike is AC so you would need to rewire the whole thing with the KX electronics.

Anything's possible if you're good at that sort of thing. The KDX and the KLX frames are alot alike. So I don't see how much different a KX250 two stroke steel frame can be. It'll certainly take some 'nippin and tuckin'.

Please take pics and let us know how it works out should you decide to attempt such an undertaking.

This motor will come with the ignition, exhaust, and carb. The only thing I'm concerned about is clearance issues when routing the exhaust. It would be quite the project, and a lot of time wasted when I could be out riding.. Should I go ahead and buy the engine and save it for a later time? It's a 92' KX250 with exhaust, carb, ignition for $150. It also needs a new piston and bore job.

Also, I think it would be a good idea to install the engine so that it's reversible in case I want to go back to the original engine. No cutting the frame or anything major...

Sounds like a winter project. Although my "winter projects" don't get started until spring rolls around Definitely wouldn't alter anything that would prevent you from going back to stock. Take pics!!!!!!!!

well ive swaped a '69 yamaha enduro 175 2 stroke motor into a 84 suziki sp 125 4 stoke frame lol and thats with different brand names and everythign and that was in my oppinion a pretty easy weekends project... so i dont see y you wouldnt be able to stick a 2 stroke kawi in another kawi frame... if i were closer i would give you hand with it... the trich it getting the exhaust to line up for an easier fit aswell as the sprocket alignment is very important... if you get it to work out i think itll be a sick bike that'll rip and maby you could even mod the kx motor a bit like: reeds, performance exhaust and all that stuff clutch etc... after you get it installed... if you do it and repair the top end id go with a wieco piston and rings if i were you thats just my opinion but i run wiseco in everything from my dirtbike, skidoo, quad to my car and i couldnt be happier

I agree with wiseco, I'm really good with 2 stroke motors and I've rebuild top ends in at least 2 dirt bikes and a quad, and always went with wiseco kits. I'm gonna pick up the motor, and take some measurements. The only big problem I see is I don't know how to weld and I don't own a welder. So I might have to hire someone.
