You guys in Australia are lucky. I wonder how much it would cost to import a CRF450X from Australia to the states. I'd be happy to drive from Washington DC to the west coast to pick that baby up.
I might pick up a KTM 450 and give the KLX to my son next year when he's old enough to get a license.
You're right though neil, the KLX is what it is. It's been great bike.

actully a dealer here tried to explain it for me; but basically it come down to some trade law and total units sold by a MFG. The big four sell way too many Motorcycles- total.

When a bike isn't made street legal here it would only be because the manufacturer deosn't see a financial reason to put it through the process.
It can be quite time consuming and costly.
Then they weigh that up with how many they expect to sell I suppose.
Surely a bike as modern as a KLX450 spits out less crap than say a KLR650?

And any bike spits out less than a Hummer or a Lincoln Navigator or the Ford Exxon Valdez whatever... All bikes should be allowed!

^ Thats the same here.
If its not stamped ADR (Australian Designed Rules) its not going to be plated regardless of what you do to it.
It just turns out that a lot of good dirt bikes get ADR approval.
Over here in the west there is a competition type of registration.
If you put head and tail light on anything, including an MX bike, you can ride on public roads and on public land as long as its part of an MA sanctioned event.
So Enduro racers can race pretty much what they like but only on a designated course in a sanctioned event.

Yanni over at TT has his klx450 platted in North Carolina, so I guess it can be done.

If it is not street legal it is hard to find the opportunity to ride here in So. Cali.
I have a buddy with a CRF250R and I ride 10X as much as he rides, his just sits in the garage. But he boosts of much more power and I declare I have more usable power.
+1 Deej - I would not give up the street legal aspect either.
Too bad my Z400 is not street legal. Where do you have to live to ride your ATV on the street? It does get pretty squirrelly above 30mph though.
