Go faster. You need the gyroscopic effect of the front wheel to stop it deflecting in the sand. Sounds easy but takes some nerve to overcome. If you ski/board, it's the same principle as riding powder, you need the speed to get the front up on top.

Sounds like it might be more of a riding technique issue, granted stiffer fork springs will definately help, the stock springs are too soft for anyone but Tila Tequila. In deep sand keep your weight back further and use the throttle to turn.

usually if it knifes, the front is too low or rear too high. If it washes out, front is too high or back is too low. probably too soft front springs as the others mentioned. also, it helps A LOT to stand up and lean as far back as possible in the sand. good luck.
